I am looking for best Romplers containing everything in it's own category.
I wanna have all needed instruments in my arsenal.

For example rompler with all trumpets, saxophones etc.
I know that one of the best is SWAM.
Rompler with Symphony instruments.
For example:
Miroslav Philharmonik.

Now I need other Romplers like that.
Romplers with guitars, banjos, mandolin, ukulele, harps, viollins, kalimba, flutes, bells, xylophone, harmonica, mellotrons, handpan, african drums & many others exotic ones, rare etc.
I need all possible to get instruments in my arsenal.

Also what software equivalent is now of those old Roland romplers with pianos, bells and other sounds?
Paid or Free doesn't matter.

I think IK Multimedia covers a lot:
Miroslav you mentioned, but with Syntronik and Sampletank 4 i'm not sure what would be more complete.
(The Roland stuff is good for that too but I find it more awkward to both browse and to tweak.)

 

Oldskool romplers = Hypersonic /Purity/Sample tank/Halion/Korg M1/Xpand/etc.. Or even older Soundfont Romplers [ Im a dinosaur ].
But most use KONTAKT today.

 

There are TWO ways :

"bread n butter" workstation spirit (any plugin rompler/workstation can do it, even an electronic oriented Nexus)
OR
realistic (only a few solutions covers almost all, like Kontakt)

So the first question is : do you need realism (playing articulations AND sound) or just "sound like" ?

For "sound like", there are a bunch of plugins (KORG, Roland ... they all provide one solution with their historical sounds and more).
For covering almost everything realistically, Kontakt seems the only solution for now (due to scripting capacity and more).

On my side, i mostly stopped using "workstation like" sounds, because they sounded cheesy to me.
Even for 80's synthwave ... spirit, i prefer full synth not trying to be realistic.

To me, "old school workstation" is an "in between" not covering synth right AND not covering "realism" too.

 

Yeah. I prefer realistic. Like you need solo part somewhere. Something which be able to handle this.
Cheesy sounds are no no.

 

SWAM is a physical modelling synth with limited usage of impulse responses. Pretty much the opposite of a rompler.

 

So Kontakt is nice, and you will get everything you want.

Have a look to VI-control for insights on libraries of the various genres that you need if you want realistic sounds. Kontakt libraries, as previously said, is the industry standard. Companies like Spitfire or Orchestral Tools now use proprietary engines and some gems can be found in software like Best Service Engine but you can find alternatives for most things on Kontakt if you want to use only one software.

While I don't often need realistic instruments, being more on synthesis tip myself, my first point of entry is Kontakt's factory library when I do need them. It's not the largest libraries around (forget multi-gig realistic strings), but it does cater for wide audience. You get "band" instruments... Horns, guitars, drums, and acoustic & electric pianos + organs. Then choir and strings (with the usual articulations) by VSL, some "world" (gawd I hate that word here) instruments, drum machines and synths.

I guess I'd augment that with some dedicated string libraries if I needed to.

*edit:* Oh, and it's not free but comes with Kontakt/Komplete. The factory selection (a way cut down version) is free though, but requires Native Access, which might be no-go for some.

 

Software:
If you don't mind subscriptions, UVI Falcon covers pretty much anything you'd ever want or need. If you want to own and money isnt a problem, it's well worth the price and then some, plus you have the option to pay only for what you want. Another option would be Roland Galaxias

Hardware:
Any Roland hardware integrated with Zen-core will cover almost all your needs. An alternative option if you don't mind using a traditional hardware sampler would be a Roland Integra-7. I prefer to use mine over Roland Cloud and still impressed at the sheer amount of sounds it has.

 

When I think of a "rompler", what I mean by it is something like using Kontakt Player. You can change the playback of the samples, but not change the samples themselves. And they come with their own weak "plugin" player to use them with. The player plugin cannot be used with any other sound libraries. To get new sounds, you get another "plugin".

It's an odd way to think about what products you want to install. Just using the presence of waveform samples to qualify something you need or want to use is very outdated. The plugin was just a way to encapsulate samples you were buying in a file format that hoped to function as DRM. Not Kontakt; but stuff like "Impakt", or "Kompakt" to use some NI examples. All each one would play was whatever samples that came with it.
