Maybe a CPU like that would get pushed to the max with ALOT of effects on a higher sample rate, but 32GB RAM... come on... i can't see such of amount being maxed out in a music-making practical situation, just sayin'. *yes*

top of the line at the moment is the Intel 3.6GHz Core i7-4960X. Its a hexacore with a quad channel memory controller.

if you build a system based on ivy-bridge e it will definitely last you more than 5 years.

Top of the line for consumer line you mean, right? Because top of the line CPU for workstations/servers is the 12 cores(HT 24 cores) Intel Xeon E5-2697 and it costs around 2800-3000 Euros here where i live.

Is a voltage stabilizer. It keeps your whole computer safe from voltage fluctuations (not only CPU) and it makes sure your voltage is optimal.

UPC is a backup battery for your whole computer as well, so it also keeps you safe from black outs or random electric energy drop.

Even if the whole city is on black out, your computer will keep being on for 15 minutes, 30 minutes, a hour.. even 3 hours, depending on how much you spend on that UPC (I'm not a native english speaker, so i'm sorry for any misspelling).

Apart from losing a hard drive a few weeks ago, it's all working fine, the only thing I really struggle with is with rendering video, audio and graphic work are no problem. I'm sure when I do eventually upgrade I will see a definite improvement. But at the moment my work flow is not impeded by the pc. My trusty old Dell 610 (XP) lappy is running Reaper and my guitar fx with no probs! :mates:

But then I have you beat, Catalyst.

I'm still using only 4 gigs of RAM on my old iMac which is nowadays held together by duct tape (that's not even a joke) :blues:
My goal is to make it last for 10 years, still 2 years left to go...

I just finally upgraded,Nothing super fancy but I got an I5 2500k,with 8gb ddr3 and a Xfx HD 7700 & 800w power supply.I need to upgrade the ram,it's just got some basic 667mhz samsung according to cpu-z,and I could use an SSD. It's not top of the line by any means especially compared to some of the others listed. But I was rockin a 2.6 ghz Pentium 4 with 2gb ddr1 (400 mhz),SB Audigy value and a Sapphire X1950 pro agp card for the last 5 yrs at least.I've only had this new one for a week maybe, but night and day difference,I've yet to get it to stutter on anything I've thrown at it thus far, everything is so much better. + I can play pretty much any game on the highest settings now too,I'm not much of a pc gamer,I mess with a lot of emulators especially now since the PS2 and Gamecube emulators work perfectly on this pc,but been playin a few of the newer PC games as well since I got this. But enough about games, audio wise huge difference, seems to handle anything I dish out,was running about 15 synths with at least 2 fx on each and I think my cpu may have hit 20%.I'll really give it a torture test soon.I got a lot of sorting out data to do still.Backed up the previous desktop already,(bookmarks & passwords was the rough part, xmarks worked great for bookmarks, had to remember alot of usernames & passwords though, lol)And I got a 3tb usb to backup my 1tb that was running out of space, gonna just put the 1tb up after I copy,I have another 1tb to copy that to as well that way I'll have 2 backups.I still have a folder of stuff from audioz I gotta sort too, lol.Today is the first day I've been signed in to audiosex in awhile, glad I remembered my password.I'm not real hip to all the new cpu's...I almost got 2 diff pc's before this one,one was a mac pro with 2 dual core xeons and the other was an AMD A10,both had similar specs to the one I got, but this was $100 cheaper and literally a few blocks from me. The guy I bought it off of was a real interesting character,he had like 10 pcs hooked up mining bitcoin lol.Pc parts everywhere, felt right at home

Hi! I need some advice regarding to upgraded CPU. I have Hp 6720s notebook, it had previously Intel Celeron 1,7 Ghz which was to slow to work in Ableton and Reason. In the midlle of a work I've got message "CPU to slow" even if I used only few tracks, VSTi plugins were no option or it would freeze OS.. So I decided to put better/faster processor. I managed to find CoreDuo 2,0 Ghz and now Ableton and Reason are fling like hell :) But I have graphic issues. WHen I power up laptop there is frozen display, pixelated and it frozen, so I need to restart it, go to Safe Mode, restart and then everything is fine. After that ,no graphic issues, CPU running fine.. If I skip Safe Mode part it is a NO-GO scenario :( Is there some app that can lower FSB since my BIOS is limited or any other way?... (I've tried ClockGen,Right Mark and POwer strip but I can't move sliders to lower/downclock CPU, that option is unavailable.) Celeron is working on 533 fsb and CoreDuo on 800. When graphic driver is unistaled it Windows boots fine, from first attempt but then there are black empty strips on the left and right corner of the screen.

    Thank you for suggestions! ;)

Unfortunately, the screen does not work, I'm guessing the CCFL inverter is fried, so it's external screen or nothing. Though it can be fixed, I guess.
Otherwise it's very clever machine, lots of things are hardware based and it comes with comprehensive 400-page user guide. :bleh:
