dbpoweramp is the best for ripping cds, fast and reliable, only one cd couldn´t be found thru database, so had to manually write tags

Just need to add, that while experimenting with mp3 output in Foobar conversion, there sometimes is a massive fucking difference with the sox plugin included with the idea of over and downsampling like multiple times with a nice bus plugin inbetween, aliasing down and shit. Like literally a difference between an am radio and studio speakers while checking out the final result on neutral systems.

In other words, there is or may be a way to fuck up a mix by just doing the simple 320 mp3 one click solution.

Just play with Foobar convertion, SoX, DSP chains and the format You're heading into. And I do mean MP3 320 16bit; 24bit stuff is another world anyway ;-)

Just experiment with different parameters, and You'll see how muzzled or crisp it may get, was my idea ;I

In the best comparison I've seen (a couple years ago) one of the main conclusions was that at high bitrates even the newest and most advanced codecs can barely improve MP3 (320kps).
Main example: AAC. Another thing is using bigger bitrates.

As a side note, a very techie one, I was surprised to discover that the key math operation used in almost all lossy audio codecs is the MDCT, which is a better (Modified) version of the famous DCT (Dicrete Cosine Transform) used in the JPEG image codec.

Hi guys! I have tested all MP3 converters and i think they ALL trash the mix. They all have a really bad codification? (Sorry english is not my native language).

One day i was talking with "RobRox" (It's a germany producer, have worked with Ellie Goulding, Vaski, and more) and he told me he had the same problem but he solved after met XLD.
    It's a FREE software

    https://sourceforge.net/projects/xld/

I tried it , and i loved it

Hope it helps you guys! :)

Let's put it simple: dBpoweramp uses LAME [Source] and won't produce any different result from most software out there (is there even any freeware that does not use LAME?).

Well, dBpoweramp could provide some additional tricks to improve the result. (But I doubt this.) If they patched LAME, one would find modified source code somewhere next to it (LAME is LGPL licensed). But don't get me wrong, I'm not saying their tricks have to be applied to LAME directly and could so be hidden inside dBpoweramp.

mp3 'convertor' means 'encoder' as well as 'decoder'.
LAME encoder is considered by most people the best, but Frauenhofer invented the mp3 format, and must be taken very seriously. One gives better results on some settings, and vice versa, but there's too much possibilities to explore.
As of recently the best mp3 decoder I tested is Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder v4.4 (part of the new Winamp 5.9 RC1), followed by Apollo mp3 decoder. Foobar2000 mp3 decoder lags pretty much behind.
In my experience, built-in mp3 decoders in DAWs and audio editors are of poor or mediocre quality. I have tested more than a dozen.

Slightly OT: I've switched to mp4/aac because it's more efficient than mp3 and the iTunes converter sounds very good, even good enough (for my taste) when compressing one-shot samples.
And because it's basically supported on all devices today.
