    Hi kags,

Soon I will also be looking at how to use Impulse responses. So I already did a little bit of a preliminary investigation.
Sorry that I can not give you more info on what is the best one yet (which can be quite individual I suspect, I will be using it on electronic music mostly).

The free IR loaders I will try out are:

Also, if you are using Ableton Live, you can use Convolution Reverb.

So, not a definite answer, but something that might get you going on your quest already, and a bump on the feed at the sister site ;)

    Greetings!

I'll add that if you want to do reverb, you should avoid IR loaders designed to be cab simulators unless you are sure that it doesn't do anything else than convolving your IR. With NadIR for example, I remember trying to do load a FIR filter with it and the magnitude response was wrong, no matter the settings I adjusted. I guess it tried to emulate a poweramp or something.

I never had any problem with Audiothing Fog Convolver or Liquidsonics Reverberate 3. I think they work great for reverb, but they're not free unfortunately. I'm sure Convology XT is a great alternative. Make sure that you can load true stereo IRs with them, it's essential for a good sounding reverb. Those 3 can do that.

new Fabfilter Pro-R 2 can load IRs, in sense it recreates IRs as parametric curve for finer user tuning,
it's a fresh approach, not a traditional IR loader though

Fabfilter Pro-R 2 takes the IR and approximates it. I've tried it and it doesn't sound good, let along the same as the IR you're loading.

You're best off with Melda or Kilohearts imo, as Convology takes up more CPU, and those are the most CPU efficient out of the bunch.

Liquidsonics Reverberate 3 is the best for now IMO. Steep learning curve and confusing af at first but once you get your head around it you'll realize nothing else comes close. I read in GS that it's the only lossless convolution reverb around. My favourite features that most IR loader plugin doesn't have is its dual engine, which one can be used to generate ER (super deep controls) for layering the IR on the other engine, or combine 2 IRs with individual EQ, Chorus & dual channel Delay and overall separate Master section with all 3 of them too. Same goes to modulation, individual and separate master section.

Stock factory coming with bunch of Fusion IRs vintage Lexicons and Bricasti that is basically the same one in Slate Verbsuite Classics but sounds superior due to its better internal engine. Capable of running single channel to 4 channels IR, perfect down/up sampling conversion too (cant prove it, but no obvious listenable artifact so far in my experience). I also dig its True Stereo simulation and its ability to modulate everything. Built in superb reverb engine, delay, chorus, EQ (with "Air" curve called Sheen) and browsing system.

None of them are good from the usability perspective. I have thousands of impulse responses I collected for these years and just need a convolver with a good browser, categories and tags. Something like Sononym but basic where I can categorise my IR files. Developers, please it's not that difficult to make a good browser. Fog convolver is close to what I need but the browser window is to short.

Nice, I had deleted it since I thought I read it had timebombed but I guess it was just the other LS plugs... So what's the sauce for the Early Reflections, is it the fusion-IR section with the ER/LR offset?

Hi bro do you use the 96 kHz Fusion IRs with it or just the 44.1? I am keen to experiment with Liquidsonics more. For now I only have VerbSuite.

Though I have no plans on trying Seventh Heaven. :bleh:

I never understood the appeal of IRs. Whenever I load one in Bitwig's sampler all I get is a very short transient. If I stretch and make it longer it sounds like a blue whale's intestines after a night of bathtub gin and moldy kebab.
