I've used Audio Technica ATH-50X headphones for many years now for tracking...and I'm just bored with the sound. I'm looking for a pair that isolate well what's coming through when monitoring, especially vocals as they are up close to the mics I mostly use for such tasks (I'm bidding in auction for a 441 and from time to time use an RE-20 but 95% it's a sensitive capacitor variety). I'm keeping the ATH-50X for guests that track, but for myself wish a change.

Edit: I'd like a pair with a removable/replaceable cable and...I wear glasses to be able to see clearly the computer monitor. When wearing spectacles some earpads seal is broken and isolation goes out the window.

    Watcha got for me?

Is cost a consideration? Or are you cashed up?

Anyway, you know what you're doing. You literally said that you're just bored. It's a good reason to be on this site, and to talk for the sake of talking. I hope you don't pay too much for headphones that you don't need.

Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO (250 Ohms) as usual for me
Whatever ppl say about the 250 ohms version, i can drive them with anything, even cheapo MP3 player.

    Closed back.

It appears as though 250 ohms requires more power and offers a more accurate response.

Regardless of my model of headphone, I'm going to use an EQ correction/and-or room emulation.

Sennheiser HD620S are worth a look, but I'd probably get the DT 770 PRO for studio work.

I'd really want a removable/replaceable cable. I should have listed that info also.

How come? I'm using them only for tracking and would like a pair that are nice to listen to without fatigue. For pre-mixing or for tracking keyboards and everything not recorded with a microphone I'm using Shure 1840 headphones that have been translating well to what I hear in my monitors. They are super comfy and not ever make my ears fatigue.

    Here's a forensic review of the HD620S ... https://www.audiosciencereview.com/...ds/sennheiser-hd-620s-headphone-review.57952/

I think the cheaper DT 770 PRO would be fine for non-critical isolation work, but I've never actually heard them. If you want to pay more have a look at the HD620S, or even the new DT 1770 PRO MKII if you have money to burn. (the original DT 1770 PRO should also be cheaper now).

We have the same workflow, except I am using HD 490 PRO as my mains, and ATH-50x which I want to replace.

Yea, I really need to replace the ATH-50X. I had like a 15 year old ATH-50 that finally kicked the bucket a few weeks ago, the cable was wonky and from past experience it cannot be easily repaired. I was going to have my songbird niece come over a few days ago to add some background vocal to a track but at the last minute realized I had only now the one pair.

It's not like I have money to burn, but after you're mentioning of the new 1770 MKII and reading a few reviews such as a nice one from Bonedo, I'm going to try to see if I can take a listen to them around here.

    Thanks, buddy!
