Just one clarification. Sanboxie isn't needed, I used it to keep my system clean. It's possible to install old Krishna Synth, backup all presets, uninstall it and then install Krishna Legacy as usual.

I've been on the fence looking into the yard of modular synthesis for probably a good 3 years but after trying to dive in with VCV rack, I realized that "damn, I'm pretty good with the complexity of regular synths"

Do you think that Cardinal Rack might be a better place for me to start than VCV Rack?

Cardinal is almost the same beast as VCV is. It's based on VCV code but fully free and open source. There are some differencies (external extensions including commercial ones for VCV but not for Cardinal etc.) but they aren't highly substantial.

Thank you! This exactly the response I was looking for. Where do you go to learn about modular? Follow any channels or browse other forums?

It's honestly impressive just how many high quality free effects there are out there - sometimes you just have to go through a bit of digging.
Variety of sound, Klanghelm, TDR, & TAL all make great stuff for free. Bertom is up & coming, everything they've made thus far is top notch.
I only recently tried out Variety of sound - which is stupid of me since they collaborated with TDR, one of my favorite plugin devs. All their plugins sound so damn nice & high quality - often on the same level as Black Rooster Audio & Fuse Audio Labs. Of course a direct comparison can't be made, but it definitely "feels" premium.

Free de-esser plugin. Extremely transparent and is much more than a simple dynamic EQ at a specific frequency range. They also make a transient processor which is just fucking remarkable for how low CPU usage it has.

The only issue with Cardinal is that it only has 8 audio inputs rather than VCV's 16

Free Wavetable/FM/Phase Distortion synth. Very simple yet relatively powerful. Highly recommend

Wow, that clipper looks neat. I just wish it would be Windows 7 compatible (yes, I'm still on Win 7).
