Free: move.ment is a synthesizer from the car manufacturer Kia and Arthur Joly

Nobody expected that: Kia of all people (yes, the car manufacturer) is bringing out move.ment, a free software instrument for Mac and PC, and has even brought DaHouse Audio and the Brazilian synthesizer developer Arthur Joly on board. Kia move.ment combines a synthesizer with nature samples and field recordings such as waves, wind or forest. This is how organic sounds should be created for your next production. Ingenious or completely superfluous? Decide for yourself!

It is well known that a lot of sound design goes into modern cars - for example, the sounds of the Jaguar I-PACE were created by none other than Richard Devine. So far, however, there has never been a car manufacturer that immediately publishes its own software tool. And that's not coming from Tesla or any other hip EV startup, but from Korean mass-market manufacturer Kia in collaboration with DaHouse Audio and Arthur Joly from Reco-Synth . Supposedly, move.ment was used for the sound design for the new electric car Kia EV6 .

According to Kia, the idea is to make the pink noise created by movement in nature an organic part of new sounds. This noise amplifies the alpha waves in the brain, the manufacturer writes, which stimulates the creative flow. Aha. The combination of field recordings and a software synthesizer sounds interesting - and the plug-in is completely free , so there's no harm in trying it out.

Eight nature samples as a basis for new sounds

On the left you have a choice of eight nature shots, which Kia says were taken in locations around the world. With a click you activate, for example, birdsong from the Amazon, the sound of the sea or wind noise.

These can then be mixed in the mixer with the sounds of the simple integrated synthesizer. The oscillator offers four waveforms and pulse width modulation. A filter is also available and there are separate ADSR envelopes for the filter and amp. In addition, move.ment offers a noise generator and a reverb effect. The plug-in is played via the integrated virtual keyboard or via MIDI.

It's probably not that spectacular, but I downloaded it and the included presets contain some nice sounds and effects. And who hasn't wanted to produce a track with a plug-in from the car manufacturer?!

Delay VST - Free Echo/Reverb Effect By Higher Hz

Higher Hz has released a free VST Delay unit for Windows computers named HZ Delay. HZ Delay is designed to emulate some of the feel and character of analog (BBD) and early digital delay units. This I not a clone of any unit at all so has been built as a new & unique architecture to help bring something different to users' mixes.

This different approach is evident right away because many typical features are deliberately missing or delivered in a unique way. One of those is that even the "dry" signal is Saturated/Distorted so that when the wet & dry signals are combined, the result is a lot richer than usual. Everything about this unit was designed for character.

Sonic options run through Chorus, Reverb/Early Reflections, Tape Echo, Multi-Tap Echo, and Saturation. Part of the character of HZ Delay comes as you tend to be using some or all of these outcomes all at once.
