hello, all audio saturation lover fellows,

not exactly free, not entirely just saturation, but at least comes from the crop of this year, the vertigo sound vsm-3 mix satellite plug-in, exists on the uad platform, exists in native format, by brainworx, emulation modeled after the somewhat longer existing hardware piece.

wish all the best for all of us, keep saturating what needed is...

Here's my little top 3 ordered by my personal taste, even though 1 and 2 should be at the same level, as I love both of them, depending on what kind of saturation/distortion I'm looking for.

I'm not including a few other plug-ins that are not specifically aimed at saturation (usually eqs and compressors) that can deliver great saturation if pushed hard.
I used to push hard the input (clip led always blinking and using an instance of Sonalksis Free-G to take the level back below zero) with Softube Dyna-myte and I totally loved the kind of saturation it can achieve. Give it a chance ;)
On too of that, there are many Nebula libraries that you can use the same way and that can achieve insanely good saturation.

My personal chart for plugs aimed at saturation/distortion and just that:

    #1 : Klamghelm SDRR
    #2 : Soundtoys decapitator
    #3 : FF Saturn
#4 : DUY DaD Tape & DaD Valve.

Saturn, u-he Satin, Waves tapes, PSPaudioware stuff, Klanghelm stuff, Voxengo saturators, sknote stuff, variety of sound stuff, soundtoys decapitator, fielding dsp reviver, sonimus stuff, softube, slate stuff, some of the "Plugin Alliance", and other...but the best one you can find here in list
Don't forget about Acustica NEBULA with hundreds of libraries and Acqua Plugins. They are all based on "sampled analog gear", than mathematical emulation.

Softube Dynamite! Haven't heard about that one in awhile copylefter, good one it was... never made transition to 64 did it?

I still seem to go right for decapitator out of habit and speed on it, but the Klanghelm stuff is moving up my list... I used to use the DuY stuff, way back in the TDM days even, ... but been awhile... I liked Saturn, but for some reason don't use it as often, perhaps time to revisit ... I know the FF stuff sounds great, I guess the gui for some reason has always been a bit alien to me, and that is probably just laziness in learning it... I am all for plugins that DO NOT look like an analog counterpart, but prefer cleaner design, or don't want to spend that much time getting familiar with it to coax what I want, ... but I do know I have to spend an afternoon with all the FF stuff... it just seems to be too good for me to keep ignoring...

I liked some of the izotope stuff (trash etc), but it's latency reporting was pretty bad early on (could just be MY daw), and even now when I try and use it in a parallel sense, well, it's just a little off... I love the way the stuff sounds in solo etc, but when I bring it up in a track, instant phase problems etc... even Nectar etc, which is great for quick vocal sounds...

honestly, what I have been trying to do more often, if time and volume permits, is running stuff out to a mic'ed amp... always gives everything a little "pop", but requires more setup time, and then sliding stuff around a little for phase and timing...
