I plan on migrating using Time machine (from High Sierra) on my new MacBook M1...

I was wondering what might be the best approach to install a newer non-legit version of Logic? Should I try to install over it or should I try to remove the existing version of Logic first?

 

This does not sound like a very good plan. You are going to try to migrate stuff from a Time Capsule made on HS to m1?
Good luck. I have had issues doing the same kind of things, but only migrating data between 2 intel processor based MacOS installs.
I would install everything cleanly to the M1, particularly Logic; and get your files back another way. (wifi, switched ethernet, or a crossover cable) That is the safe option, anyway.

At one point, I got locked out of AppleStore and had to use a pirated copy of Logic 10.4 or 10.5, and at the time the .app file was just dragged over to the hd. All the newer TNT releases are .dmg files, suggesting that a full install of 10.6/10.7 may be required even if you would prefer otherwise. With some of the bigger changes implemented in 10.7, clean is still going to be your best bet.

Thanks for your response - although this isn't exactly what I hoped to hear... It will involve lengthy installs for various plugins.. and on the other hand my 2011 MacBook Pro has actually been doing very well.. I'm even contemplating returning the M1 Mac...

On a side note do you know if the following programs work on the M1?

Superior Drummer
Omnisphere/Keyscape

 

my laptop is a 15.5 2017 intel i7 MacBook Pro running Mojave/Logic 10.5 on internal ssd. so it will be quite some time before I buy an m1, unless I stumble upon a really good deal.

both of those should run fine on the m1. (legit versions, you have to check each plugin for m1 compatibility with "other releases" because it can depend upon the releaser). Wait till you get Logic running some M1 native plugins before you take that sucker back!

It's gonna fly. a trick I do with new computers, is not to install any plugins right off the bat. I mean unless you clearly know you will use them immediately. Wait until something shows up as missing in a project to install it. You will probably add back about 3 in 10.

all those have been updated for M1. and frankly YES you're going to REALLY want to do a clean install on a majority of the material. Can you migrate stuff over?? SURE you can, but will it be perfect? NO! Problem is a lot of plugins that are INTEL may or may not work on rosetta 2 and that is if you don't have an update for any of the plugins. You will run into issues of compatibility if you don't update them, especially if they are cracked. SO my suggestion is you start clean as much as possible and migrate whatever else you may need.
