It's been quite a while since I bothered checking VMWare, too, dear Xupito. Like 10 years or so. But you know, VMWare is a pro-grade program that costs mucho dinero, so is Parallels and they work better, but VirtualBox is good enough, especially when it comes to just browsing the Internet. It's also a perfect free platform for testing various OSes like BSD, OSX or Linux, or even different Windows. Since VM-OS is pretty safe even if you get infected [but not 100%], it doesn't matter so much which OS you run. Maybe OSX is actually the best "middle" solution for safe browsing: https://techsviewer.com/how-to-install-mac-os-x-el-capitan-on-pc-on-virtualbox/  However, I will always choose Linux for that and for server, Linux is the best choice, too.

But the handiness of VM-OS no matter which one you use... it's just unparalleled. I love it so much! :P

Nevermind the OT, I think we've covered all AVs well, eh? :) The only thing, there should be another thread just about Virtual Machines, I think.

No questions about that, specially for a modest non-ASP web developer like me.

Appreciated, though as you may know, was more addressed to the mods.

Now that nobody read us... I just read a crazy funny joke from our dear mod @Olymoon on the sister site AZ... such as...

I'm still laughing hard but yet kinda scared ... I mean :woot:... well, never mind...

    I guess I just made a cross-OT... ?

Edited: it's a very, very bad yet hilarious joke about how it sounds "arigato" in spanish. Literally translated would be like "Oh the cat!"

Bitdefender free is many times better than Windows Defender and consumes lower cpu.

Absolute and totally agree. Never had ANY problem with Kaspersky's KIS. Use it for ten years now and my system works flawlessly every day again. Thereby licences are VERY CHEAP if you shop the internet!! Do yourself a favour and buy KIS....:wink:

its not true but some truth is in it blv it or not
    -----------------
all freeware av make false alerts to be an important app....and also the paid ones mostly
when i got a virus, av cant help in most cases...
most virus are on porn, cracked software, darkweb
    just use common sense..
if you do online banking...do it on linux...and on machine which is only for that and other finance and meta data shizl...all other is risky...
dont trust av...lol...trust youreself...but if just want a no brainer and get av...dont do dangerous data

i had very less problems like that...but i had virus from a cableguys p2p rls..i kno av never would have had a alert...i have always taskmanager open to monitor cpu,ram this way i could determine ...
if you dont want to get into it..only fresh os will bring safety...i didnt need fresh os..i could destroy it..and im not good at this..but its enough...

EDIT i rather detect a virus by ram usage instead of process monitoring

    everybody uses different av...no matter
    its like gambling...
which av detects the virus i gone get...lol

know youre taskmanager is best av...and massive up to date hosts...+ netstat -ano in powershell is all i need
you all are to scared for your data...but dont watch youre puters threads and trust spyware....
    word
    heh heh...
i kno i overpace and av can be good but not for my surf laptop and never ever for a workstation..
and you can have online workstation without av..just be a adult and stay in the green zone...and you never have to watch any

all av shares and sell analytics of user data...legit or legit illegal no matter what
and the biggest botnets are spread by av's
    no sci fi

    Dear Godfather SAINT!

I must disagree with you. The best against the most frightening, hours nightmare fiingerbiting, pain avoidance system is Comodo. Only 1 of 5 that do not include the top 20. To always beat Randsomware. Avoiiding file encryption is the no.1 fear.KIS sophos eset and Bit defender I have seen beaten to date never Comod. It has some flaws with adverts but Ramsonware, is the ultimate nightmare.

low Ramsonware i kill in taskmanager ....bad ramsonware you get by going to wrong place

i had them all installed and compared....its like DAW#S...i trust most on malwarebytes

statistics are good but my experience is saying me i dont need it

ok if some human decide to do all and everything includin meta data and finances on same windows machine than i say better install av..:deep_facepalm:

but its like this before you get protected by av somebody got fckt and did report virus...means you can be that vice versa cause unknown new virus..

special data should always be processed on linux....such puters are cheap or use old

and fresh os on win at least every year...for linux i use mag dvd and boot everytime new for special shizl

true god mode includes now av or win security clicks no no

it really not smart to run AV on a audio workstation unless you have ultimate horsepower

Well thats basics, that don´t run anything additional on your DAW. And if you have spare computer, make it safe for browsing.
I´ve been on internet since 1993 and i´ve only got one bad virus, and thats only because I was visited some nasty pornsite late 90´s.
Since then I´ve used only private trackers and topsites. Pornhub is also safe

There's really no better "antivirus" than VirtualBox.

Once installed, it doesn't use any resources, until you start the virtual OS for browsing, which you can easily do with a shortcut on the desktop. When you're browsing, you feel completely safe, and you can let yourself mess up things without having to worry about it, because everything you do will not be remembered by the virtual OS when you close it. Once you make a screenshot of the virtual OS, you can always start it from that point in 1-2 seconds. Really, a no-brainer.

I know I'm repeating myself, but I don't know why people even bother with antiviruses. :stumped:
