Doesn't it work just by setting your firewall to white-list mode?
It's what I do. When I want to update Chrome, JDownloader and a few more I just change to black-list.

Auto-updating is my second worst enemy. After Trap music

Recently ive been using zen browser, its based on firefox but its faaast, crazy fast, well for now, will see in the future, give it a go maybe youll like it, for chromium based been using Arc, kinda like that one too, and also, you can try duck duck go browser, yes i know they have browser too lol, they have their own way of playing yt, you can check that one too, its minimal clean fast, on duck duck i just installed it and it looks like it blocks everything and has customizable privacy it pretty aggresive by default but you can go even more wild, in Arc and in Zen i do have ublock origin working fine so far no issues. Ive left chromium long time ago and switched back to Firefox, but it got kinda memory hog, so ive been switching between these 3 broweser for past few months and really liking Zen, dont wanna post any links here google them check it out and if you like what you see no harm in trying, there really is no other option but to ditch chrome when they update and block blockers, no pun intended lol

I've heard good things about Zen.
Also, idk if it has been mentioned, but there's an "Ungoogled Chromium". Haven't tested it though.

Personally I'll stick with Chrome and UBOrigin until Google gets more radical with its measures. For some months they've been testing the waters. There'll be fucking war lol

If after that Google still can pull it off I'll switch.

    Meta/Google own Youtube and Chrome.
    And most ad content.

At the end, ALL ad blockers (especially YT oriented) will disappear from Chrome.
Look at how many ads are from Google related platforms, and you will understand why ad blocking is going to disappear from Chrome soon.

Meta will take EVERY excuse to do it.

My advice : switch to Firefox when you need ad blocking.

Ps : GM own around 50% of all USA web ads

I've been using ungoogled chromium for a while and it's so close to google that I even forget that I am using it. I changed the shortcut icon even into chrome, because I am just so used to clikcing that, that I kept clicking on chrome while I wished to use unogoled chromium. In theory there should be less spywarre and you can also install any plugin on it, although it first requires you to installl some plugin manually (Which means dragging and dropping a file inthe browser) if you want to use the google extention store, or however that is called. However, it's quick, has pretty much the same settings, the same plugins work and it does not mention any message that you cannot use ublock origin or anything like that. Do not be discouraged because a few settings are bit harder to find, but it pretty much contains hte same setting and like i said the first extension is harder to install, as it reqiures you to download the exttension file, put it in deveoped mode and then drag and drop the extension on the browser. If you download the extension called 'Chromium web store" and drag and drop the file on the browser when its in deveoper mode (that you can tick on , on the right corner of hte screen somewhere), you can from that moment on install any browser the way it works in the regular chrome using the chrome store or however that extension site from chrome is called.

I asked my AI bot about google's tentacles reaching ungoogled chromium or not and it said

"Ungoogled Chromium is a fork of Chromium that removes dependency on Google web services. Although it is based on Chromium, it has its own licensing and does not fall directly under the Chromium EULA. Ungoogled Chromium is licensed under the BSD-3-Clause License.

Me: "does that mean google's metaphorical tentacles do not have power over it?"
AI bot: "In a sense, yes! Ungoogled Chromium is designed to strip out all the Google-specific code and services from the original Chromium browser, which includes things like Google Safe Browsing, Google account integration, and more.

    Here’s what it means:

    • No Google Services: Ungoogled Chromium doesn't rely on any Google services, so you won't have Google’s features integrated into your browser.

    • Privacy-Focused: It aims to enhance privacy and control over your browsing data, with minimal to no automatic data collection and reporting to Google.

    • Open Source: The project is open source and managed independently of Google, which means it follows different development and maintenance practices."
So far I've not had any problem with it. The biggest íssue'was that i had no cluie how to install it and where ot find some settings or features, while most are there. Other than that it's all very similar to google chromium. The only issue that I do have and only remember now is that it can not autoamtically translate a website like any russian tracker site that no one here would dare to visit, because it contains illlegal content and anyone here hates that as we're good citizens ;). I've tried looking for extensions that can do that and had succes with some, although i forgot with which one atm. Also, you can just select hte text you want to translate and then use that method, althoguh it's a bit of hassle if you are browsing a website.

    However, I'd recommand it
