As most of you that use Chrome probably know they will soon end support for uBlock Origin.
This makes me a wee bit unhappy as I've never found another that worked as well. I have
tried AdBlock....not too impressed. I also have Ghostery installed but haven't tried it yet.

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks!!

    Cheers.....Trip

apart from using Firefox based browser (which imo isn't bad "backup" option already),
you may look into (selfhosted) DNS sinkholes like PiHole which work bit different than in-browser adblock though

If uBlock Origin can't work efficiently, pertaining its ability curbed by the browser itself, no other Adblocker will work either.

Going forward you have three choices:
    1. Replace Browser
    2. Use system wide adblock solution ex: Adguard for Windows
    3. Use uBO light that can still parse 10,000 rules (compared to ~300,000 on Firefox) this way you get to stay on Chrome.

    Good luck.

Edit: Option 3 has one more caveat, 0-day fixes can't be applied as lite version has no filter updating mechanism. Filters are built into the very add-on itself and only update when the extension itself is updated.

Say stop - I do NOT want to be a slave to Google any longer!!!

Use a different browser, as the previous posters have already recommended.

I use AdGuard on Safari, where adblocking works similarly to what Google is forcing on Chrome users now. It's not bad at all. It even blocks YouTube web ads (with some mandatory waiting time between videos). It blocks less stuff than uBO Full, but not to the point where it gets annoying. As a content blocker, it's a very solid choice where uBO Full isn't an option. Can't speak for AdGuard the VPN or AdGuard the DNS service.

    that's also Chrome inside though

it's a nice privacy-oriented Firefox flavour, but lack of automatic updates makes it less secure to vulnerabilities and exploits for daily use

Only a matter of time before Chromium EULA is updated. Then we'll have one more flavor, BraveFox LOL

uBlock Origin Lite is actually really solid if you set the filtering to "complete", there are some (very few) websites that don't play nice with this but it still works very very well.

I use Brave with both uBlock Origin & AdGuard AdBlocker (the latter helps block peeplink popups).
Also use Firefox for personal with uBlock Origin and both are great

I'm using several browsers for several purposes and I suggest you to dump Chrome and replace it with Firefox or Opera.
In Opera you even can use your Chrome extensions as well as ublock origin and you have a free VPN.

Firefox in comparison has the most extensions of them all and you can customize it like crazy.

One reason why Google doesn't want ublock in their browser:
It successfully blocks youtube ads and youtube's "it's illegal to use youtube with an adblocker" reminders
    (which isn't illegal btw.).

if vivaldi finally updates to the non working chrome version, i will switch to FF Dev, Ive done that already a while ago as Opera introduced AI crap and a horrible GUI, which wasnt changeable on top of super annoying search suggestions, which you couldnt remove. (i did write Opera, they simply set its a feature which was simply there.)

i can sacrifice performance for being ad-free. and Google can suck my balls with their ads.

Thanks for the advice. I know I could simply switch browsers...but that wasn't my question and, unfortunately for several reasons I don't need to get into
switching browsers is simply not a viable option. I do, in fact use other browsers for other things both Tor & Brave. I switched FROM Firefox after using it
for years when it stopped working the way I needed it to . I've tried Adguard and found it to intrusive for my needs.

"uBlock Origin Lite is actually really solid if you set the filtering to "complete", there are some (very few) websites that don't play nice with this but it still works very very well."

Thanks that sounds like my best option. I already have it installed just need give it full permissions.

Thanks again to all that responded!!

Other adblockers on Chrome will also suck due to manifest v3, that is why you should use a different browser. There are more than a few suggestions above.

I stopped chrome updates a while back so there's no danger of uBlock ever going dark. Same with FF. Google along with the rest of their giant ad generator sites (Utube, etc..) want to rid themselves of blocking mechanisms to make their capitalist Ad bullshit mandatory for all. Middle fingers to all of them...

You do realize the whole "you better update or ELSE" bullshit is a fabricated industry standard lie to keep you rolling down their path. I have been using the same version of FF and chrome for years and never, repeat, NEVER, have I ever had an issue with "vulnerabilities" or "exploits". Not luck. Not stupidity. Just proving that what the industry tells you fills their bottom line and keeps it filled as long as folks believe their false flags. Not saying there isn't bad stuff out there that can mess stuff up, but the constant telemetry and "updates" are useless in preventing that. The only thing that protects you against the bad stuff is self proactivity and common sense.
