99$ Behringer Saturn, Volca Style Jupiter Based Synthesizer

Behringer dropped news on a 99$ mini synthesizer based off the classic Jupiter synthesizer. This almost Volca style mini synth from Behringer is the third piece announced in a new line of smaller budget style synths.

Just my humble opinion, but I really dislike the 'toy' appearance of these little synths. From Volcas to those Teenage Engineering Pocket Operators... I find them embarrassing for some reason. How they sound or what their capabilities are, that is another matter which I am not speaking to. It's simply the design aesthetic I find seriously unappealing.

i highly recommend that you do not buy one if looks are more important than sound.

It looks as cheap as its price tag is. As much as I appreciate the accessibility of consumer products, there sure is a lot of expendable looking (and sounding!) gear being made. I'll be the first to say that I dislike the exorbitant prices of the used / vintage market, but the answer is innovation, not imitation.

I did write that in this particular instance I was not speaking about the sound, merely the appearance. Is that not something I can critique?

The whole thing is nothing but a profit-making business for the manufacturer ! Make Money.

Just like the JP version, it would be interesting, if it would look more serious. I mean you will have an ugly amount of menu diving with this keys, they could have extend for 100€ euro/$ - but maybe we (or only me?!) are not the group, which would buy it?

Actual i checked the price for the TD-3 MO version ... it looks serious and it sparks interested and inspiration for me.

    99 dollars !?
Subtract labour costs, import tax, 19% VAT (Germany) and transport costs, etc.

I agree they look cheap, they are cheap. I'm just curious about what these little things will sound like. At that price I'm not expecting much, we'll see.

This may be the product that gets behringer sued - Roland already had a 'Saturn' (divide-down organ) synth that was a cutdown RS-09. From the same time as the 'Mars'. It might just be infringy enough to make Roland's wolves salivate.

Again i find this naming very stupid and weak!
DS-80 (CS-80), JP 4000(JP 8k), Saturn (Jupiter-8), TD-3 (TB-303), etc there are so many of these variations of names. Atleast here they could have been a bit more creative.
