As you said, it is like car restoration. You don't restore a 1954 Packard Panther to be your daily driver.

I think stupid is wanting something, having the money to purchase it, and not doing it. You only live once. Moreover, those newbies of today will learn and pass their knowledge, and synths, on to the next generation. It is awesome. They are keeping these legends alive.

Nah, TLC and a little maintenance go a long way with those synths. I can tell you this, they are built to last. Recap, calibrate and enjoy them. All my Oberheims still have the original pots/knobs, switches, keys. Same thing with majority of them with a few exceptions. I always feel that the Behringer DM12 will give up before one of the OBs. The secret lays in being proactive. Do not wait until things go bad and damage something else. A good example is the batteries. People wait until the battery leaks and corrodes whatever it finds. A simple $5 battery, and $75 labor, turned into a $500-$1000 job. Being good with electronics always help but it is not a must. Indeed, the majority of owners now and then can't even solder but there are plenty of good techs out there. One thing I know is that the majority of people that bad mouth hardware synths are those who do not owe them. To get this thread back on topic I will add that I cant wait for the OB-xa clone. Whatever its name may be, I will buy it as soon as it becomes available. Oh yes!

C'est la vie, newbie vintage synth heads.

I love behringer bringing their cost cutting takes on vintage synths
I think since behringer stuff is built so cheaply there is space for an online community to recommend replacement pots, switches, structural integrity tweaks, support for encoders etc

So there is no price made public yet?

Who knows what the keybeds behringer uses are like?

A friend who has been beta -testing it, tells me it will sell for $1800

In the Deepmind 12 v2 they are ok but not Fatar TP9

I don't think it needs to be any better than the originals, within reason?
Yet anything from the present day will be better than the originals! haha
Unless it's whatever keybeds M-Audio use.*

Bruh, I still haven't got around to getting the D-50 fixed, but I was using it for some work the other day along with a weighted controller and another synth, so they are seeing a D-50 but if they hear a patch it's happening from the plugin because I only was using the board for its aftertouch! hehe :winker:

    * edit: Disclaimer:- But if they now use a better standard of keybed, and the OB-Xa uses it too, it's all fine with me!
