The JP-4000 is a 4-voice clone of the Roland JP-8000 hybrid synth complete with Supersaw waveform in an adorably cute little box that’s destined to be a cult classic.

 

Cult classic ? mmmh not sure ...

By default it's a toy box for kids / education ...

I'd rather pay twice the price and get a real decent JP8000 clone with more tweakability.

Mini synth at a mini price

If it wasn't for the Behringer Pro VS Soul announced yesterday, you could almost mistake today's Behringer JP-4000 for a hoax. As the name suggests, it is said to be inspired by the engine of the famous Roland JP-8000 - complete with the #1 trance element Supersaw.

The four-voice JP-4000 Spirit is apparently even one size smaller than the Pro VS Soul. Nevertheless it has a complete sound generation with two "analog modeling" oscillators per voice, an analog filter (also per voice or paraphonic?), modulators and an arpeggiator.

The sound generation is controlled by buttons for the individual sections and an OLED display with encoder. Only the analog filter has controls for cutoff and resonance. An envelope is available for both filter and VCA. Pitch and cutoff can also be modulated by two LFOs.

Additionally, a 2-OP FM engine is available. The arpeggiator has three "patterns", by which patterns are probably meant, and a hold function.
The mini-keyboard has 16 keys, which should react anschldynamically. The device has 32 memory locations, but the SynthTribe app can be used to swap out and archive the stored sounds.

The JP-4000 Spirit is controlled via USB/MIDI, and all parameters can be remotely controlled via NRPN/CC commands.
The Behringer JP-4000 Spirit enters as a price breaker, as it is said to cost only $49. June 2022 is mentioned as the delivery date.

All these wee ones probably use the same motherboard and it's just a different cheap dsp engine for each model.

 

These look like toys for kids, but at that price, maybe that is the point! Get them interested while young!

 

Behringer's tactics work very well and are extremely successful... the list of companies Behringer has purchased over the years speaks for itself ...whether you like what he does or not...he doesn't give a fuck

obviously to wet the appetite for a full blown JP8000 copy.. seel all the low polyphony synths first then hit the "mid market" with the big poly synths to really crank up the revenue i bet.. great marketing.

 

Almost any fun little synth hardware thing that costs $49 will sell extremely well, idk why more gear makers haven't caught on to that. I'd buy one.

 

I do not like Trance music but this guy didn't do it very well.

They changed the look and name as a result of listening to users on FB, $49 ​

 

It sounds like a Volca Keys: basic but honest. From this video demo it is not very clear: is it mono or polyphonic?
Considering Volca's price tag is $ 132, the JP4000 final price $ 49 is affordable, this little keyboard could be useful to musicians on a budget

 

too bad when you wanna emulate an jp8000 and your demo guy obviously never understood the impact of the real super saw on a whole genre.
the demo says nothing and sounds like any other synth imo.

thanks. i still own a jp8000. it has an error on the memory banks though. i think its time to switch batteries again. thats why i hoped for a little companion to my big guy
lets just wait for other demos, when its released, if it really sounds like an JP
