"We've been releasing some really high-end signal processors recently, and many of you have asked about reviving the Fairchild 670, the holy grail of all compressors/limiters.

This extremely complex and difficult unit contains a large number of vacuum tubes. We believe we could produce this sought-after piece of equipment for under $1,500.

Before we embark on this journey, we'd like to gather your feedback. Would you be interested in us creating this unit?

    Let us know your thoughts!

P.S. We can’t promise to make this unit and for now we’re only gathering customer feedback."

Seems to be lot of interest in this one. We will see I guess.

has anyone tried their gear yet? i have a couple of their synths, and while the build quality is shit, the sound is still good. Ive been eyeing their 1073, but hesitant to pull the trigger

My Pro1 has better build quality than the original plastic junk that would always drift.

Fairchild is so expensive because of the x20 tubes that has.
To give you an idea, one JJ 6386 LGP costs 205euro ATM but there are cheaper options like Mullard EL-34 or RCA 6973.
If not done right, this would potentially kill the tubes that are nearly in extinction.
Then is the PCB which would be another 500 and the case that much so.
Then you have 3 transformers , 600 -700 at best.

This is not a viable project at this price-point for many reasons.

Drip used to sell parts and even assemble some, years ago.
6k was they base version and went up to 9 with all good parts.

Not gonna happen. An Uliarri (Ferrari clone) would be a catastrophe. It would have to be dumbed down in terms of part quality to the extent that the wheels would come off on the first quick turn, the paint would begin flecking off the first time it rained and the engine noise would sound like the numbered balls of a Lotto number machine when it begins to blow air. There are companies that do make Fairchild emulations like Stam who does use better electronics, potentiometers and the like and his pre-order price is $4999. He uses 16 matched NOS 6BA6 tubes and 2 6386 in order to try to match the compression curve of the original. A Behringer version would be like saying you got head from Marilyn Monroe but it was really a guy wearing a blond wig in a PornHub video that you wacked off to. It might be your thing, you might get off in your fantasy, but....just saying.

I think he will have no problem getting a cheaply made copy of them out the door for under $1500. Most people who buy them will never have heard one and will say they sound the same anyway. That will be in the "youtube unboxing video" they make, right before sending it back.
He should just make plastic front panel fakes and save everyone the effort.

I like Behringer but this one seems destined not to fly. Although it would be much cheaper than the original it's still expensive outboard and thus niche. Most of the people that want one won't want the Behringer name on it. It's like them making a 50K Ferrari clone.

    Pretty good decision.
The original has so much distortion that it doesn't even matter how bad it would be designed. :hahaha:

So the advantage would be that it's just so much more affordable.
