Berlin, 31.3. 2018. According to Uli Behringer it was the right thing to do. Official announcement will be given at the Frankfurt musikmesse in two weeks.

This is weird as fuck. :dunno:
Their plan as i have read in the email news letter, is to offer it as a monthly subscription kind of thing. When asked about protection, he pointed at PT and Steinberg, "Certainly a dongle is an option".

Shocking news indeed. Uli is known to buy small companies with potential like Cockos/ Reaper.

It's not the first time that Behringer products are bundled with fine products from smaller companies.
    See "energyXT" for example.

Assuming its not an April fools joke, why would they want to add protection to a piece of software that isn't really that popular and make it huge in size with a crap dongle by the likes of Steinberg that doesn't work properly and causes all kinds of headaches? Talk about shutting themselves out of the market. Cubase will fade away because nobody new is getting introduced to it, whereas Ableton will flourish because it has become the DAW of choice in tutorials and it isn't heavily protected. I get endless headaches from the eLicenser and I'm convinced they've screwed it up with so much antipiracy code that they can't find faults any more, so they just bury their heads in the sand and carry on aimlessly.

Cubase isn't far off 1000 times the file size of Reaper. Air said in 2009 that Cubase 5 was about 50% antipiracy. You can only imagine, after they put more code in to stop the next crack, just how big it is now. Cubase loses my soundcard and reconnects every session without fail for at least a split second. If I have Ableton open at the same time it kicks the soundcard away from Ableton, presumably whilst it accesses the USB buss and does crappy checks. Then there's the CPU usage. Same track being converted across to Ableton is using 75% CPU in Cubase and 3% in Ableton. I can play back the track in Ableton whilst its loaded in Cubase at 75%. So where is all that CPU usage going?

Best thing Behringer could do is integrate some hardware into the software and probably give away the software to run well with Behringer hardware and make money there, like Apple pretty much do with Logic.

Does this mean that they might incorporate the Universal control surface mackie protocol into reaper for the mac properly ??? i wonder

  16. Why didn't they buy Cakewalk? Both companies have similar revenues. Cakewalk brings them 50+ employees, an existing licensed userbase and the company's infrastructure. Cockos Inc buys them two programmers and a brand name.

I can't see Justin F sitting well in a Swiss board room. It doesn't make a whole huge amount of sense as a business proposition.

    Sorry von_Steyr, it's an April Fool. If it ain't your's it's somebody else's.

Thanks for the heads up @Von_Steyr.

I can trust Germans' professional when it comes to Audio Production, Equipments & Technology, I must say. Steinberg and NI just two examples from among many great tool designers there. I just put my fingers crossed.
