Okay, I just put together this little sonic collage (it needs better mixing, no doubt), and in the process I've come to believe that even if "musicians" don't consider beats music, the process of creating a beat is ART nevertheless. As legitimate as sculpture, collage, etc...only this time, the medium is sound.

Anyway... what do I need to improve on here?

Thanks for your feedback in advance.

    It's called sampling... Nothing new!!!

Everything!!! The sound is dull, distorted, and most of all: BORING!!!

    >what do I need to improve on here?

Could use an edgier name, but otherwise? Perfect!
Now you compliment me. On my art. I made it all by myself, out of my own downloads :)

Hey, it may not be a great beat but...it's original. Not a sample running through it. Anyway...I accept that it's not hot. Moving along.

It's always the ones you spend too much time on that end up weak.

Like when you're on the toilet, forcing, and only weak shit comes out. Lesson learned. On to the next one.

Keep dreaming... it's not an art form to take/use other people's work (beat loops, MIDI loops, one-shots, doesn't matter) just like rearranging toy, wooden blocks isn't an art form either.
In both cases, someone else created the items you use to assemble your "idea". However, a child playing with building blocks isn't trying to convince anyone they are legitimate...

Sorry to burst your thin-walled bubble... but I didn't study music all my life to compete with lesser "musical individuals". Just because a computer can make you sound intelligent, it doesn't hide the fact that you still do not possess true musical skills to CREATE art. I create my own loops, samples, MIDI files, one-shots, tracks, songs, and film scores. So yes... there IS a huge difference. Can you survive with your "product" unplugged and without a computer? I doubt it... I can play several acoustic instruments to feed my family, if needed.

Just remain in your bedroom-studio, wishing for Santa Claus... or other "realities".

    Look at this guy.
Hope you realize the average listener couldn't give two shits that you make everything from scratch. This argument that everything needs to be hand made doesn't even apply to sampling. Sampling is it's own thing, it's just a method of making that final result that your audience hears, nothing else.

And jesus christ, you don't need to be so excessively negative, critical , and presumptuous of the original poster. This is a community. Audiosex doesn't have room for musical elitists like yourself. We all try to make music and work towards our goals. We don't need shit like that.

So how about you lighten up, try and make a good beat from sampling, and come back and try and degrade the method some more. I bet you'll actually enjoy producing it, and maybe even get a fresh perspective on how you produce.

Please!! WHAT audience!!!! All beatmakers are completely disposable not to mention replaceable on a daily basis! My music is all over the TV, all over the world... but I didn't come here to "legitimize" it... just to state the facts.

This forum isn't here to just stroke your fur... there are two sides to everything just like the truth hurts. Obviously... you took offense to my comments... which by the way I'm entitled to.

I do make good beats... you listen to them ALL THE TIME. They're all over. It's how I make a living. I also compose for film and advertising. So how about you grow a little as a human and learn to accept criticism, even criticism that you find offensive. It's how you grow exponentially. Or you can just stagnate in your own thoughts... I don't care. Try and have a nice life anyway...

Beatmaking is as art as taking old paintings, ripping them apart and assembling them in a new way. Imagine what a Mona Lisa would look like that way? And if all the millions of people did that, what kind of paintings would we get? All the same paintings all the time, just messed up a bit. That's what's happening to music. It is becoming bland without any fresh input.

An artist makes his own art, from scratch. It is much harder, yes... you have to know how, you have to have more tools etc. I can assure you true artists don't use loops, except maybe their own. Just take Nine Inch Nails or Depeche Mode for example. I'll cut my reproductive organs off if you find one Samplephonics or Looploft, or Vengeance, or whatever loop in their songs.

On the other hand, I'm not against using loops in music. Just use them all you want and be like everybody else. But then don't call yourself an artist, please.

I sampled Taylor Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do" for that beat. Can you hear it?

    Something like this?

Wikipeedos call him an artist; I'm not a fan, but arguably he was. Meets Lucky Seven's litmus test: his stuff's worth $$; could have supported a family :)
    What are we getting now?

This track is actually really cool. I like the progression and the vocal samples. IMO you should drop more in there and maybe variate the voices like the old boombap breakbeat mixtapes. Also the high end is a tiny bit harsh on my studio monitors. Overall your production chops seem to be improving quickly since your first posts! Keep rehashing all of your tracks and make a mixtape please.

Don't bail on this track because you asked the internet for input, ..and it responded with fart noises. Hip Hip is a unique style of production and historically samples play a big role. Its a major industry and has impacted music globally.

I want to clarify one thing straight: I'm not against anyone making music. And nobody calls me a mfer when you get to know me.

I'm just trying to make people more creative. Simple. It is up to them to choose the way, though. Kinda like the blue and red pill, really.

people shit on bed sheets, vomit all over it, let it dry, give it a clear coating.

hang it in a museum, call it art, and sell it for 180.000

    lesson of the day:

dont force the weak shit out
because anything can be done in an artful way
