Hi I'm looking for an app or vst (better still) for PC...that can do similar to what beat detective does in pro-tools..apparently its good....any recommendations please...I'd also need it to be able to handle 3/4 time etc...anything that has a pointer where you can set the first beat position would be great too?
ones i've looked into so far which might be doing what i'm after..Beat To midi -- cannot get hold of as site defunct. Beatcounter...a bit hit and miss..

 

First of all, any DAW (sonar, magix, live, logic, etc...)

Software:

1) propellerheads recycle
2) izotope phamatik pro
3) audiofinder on macosx
4) audacity editor (probably) as free
5) adobe audition (probably)

 

If BPM detection is what you're after, I turn to Traktor Pro (not free) for this job. Usually good on pop stuff (sometimes you might need to x2 or /2 the tempo), but for meter, you'll need to figure this out for yourself.

 

cheers guys...lets say the song changes tempo a few times throughout...in Reaper i can create a tempo map, i think its called, but in order to do that i need to find out what the tempo IS. have those beat detector apps you've suggested, got the ability to detect these changes too?
