A few days ago someone posted a direct link in the forum to an "advanced compression" tutorial by RSO.

People started getting this message after visiting the publisher's site:
    Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /homerecording/advanced-compression-p-106.html on this server.
    -----

I believe that the publisher is banning IP addresses of users that click through from this site.
I see that the original poster has now made the link no longer "clickable" and it may be wise for everyone to make sure to follow suit in future postings. ***don't use clickable links***
Copying and pasting links instead of directly clicking on them is advised.

There is plenty of legitimate music discussion on this forum, so why a publisher would want to lose sales and exposure is beyond me, but just wanted to put this out there for everyone. Many of us have purchased products that we learned about here.

I wasn't sure if sites like bit.ly or tinyurl would work, but if they do or if someone can confirm this, then yes it would be a good solution. Thanks.
I just wanted to make sure that no one clicked on direct links.

This was also how the developer of synthmaster 2.5 found his synth k'd and then his way into our forums. Ugly as fook GUI, mediocre synth, I see why he was worried about people "trying" and complaining about lost sales. Even though If we did make any money with it we definitely could afford it easily. But computer music did give it a really good review this month.

    Review

*above link made with bit.ly

Direct links can kill a board like this really quickly.

There are only two of workarounds

    1. ban direct links in the rules and strictly enforce it.

    2. make all direct links anon by default. (I don't know if this is pos with 'Community Forum Software by IP.Board.'Surely it must be.

I guess admins are dealing with this problem already.

    tB.

well we can set to use a code-bbcode instead of direct linking.

anon service would be good too.

Instead of banning all clickable links , as some are to examples, or relevant info to the topic of discussion.

    @Olymoon agree
yeah just ban/disable the links to sites that don't want us to show up... f*@4K 'em
