hi everybody, I'm using Logic Pro X for doing Trap, EDM... beats and I want to increase my workflow for doing all the little things very quickly (like searching and peeking drums very fast in a huge drum library as everybody may have). On a couple sessions I used to use Battery for the drums but the issue that I have with this sampler is that I want to set the default key range to C3 not C1, I can do it easily but when I change the default key to C3 and click with the mouse on the selected cell to hear the drum it's sets like it's on C9 . Plus, C1 on Battery corresponds to C-1 on LogicProX and its problematic when I load an 808 sub because you can't go below C-2. So my question is how can I fix this to C3 and have it "key tracked" for exemple between C1 to C5 (2 low octaves : C1, C2 / 2 high octaves C4,C5) with the default key to C3. Facing this issue I use Maschine 2 for the drums which sets the drums normally to C3 and it's synchronized with Logic. But the size on the screen is too big and battery offers good features for drums. Thanks a lot.

Trap and EDM... If Catalyst reads this you will be striked out ;) Just a joke. I don't get behind your wishes. Do you want your drums to be tuned by battery or do you want just a shitload of samples (5 octaves, 60 samples !), no tuning, just to try them out ?

lol I want them to be played like any other instrument and then I route them out on individual channels like I do on Maschine2 without using any pitch plugin.

i do not see the needing for multi outs. Multi Outs are complicated and Battery doesn't suck much cpu. Nor does it suck much ram. Again, i do not see your problem. You pick a couple of samples, drag drop it into battery and all should be fine.

i remember doing some complextro stuff with battery. a couple of instances of battery, every one filled with samples in a certain key. Battery G, Battery C#, Battery D and so on. That was fucking funny. Sylenth Presets, LogicX, right click bounce in place bounce in place bounce in place. Drag dropped these bounces into battery and complextro stuff was ready to go. I rarely had so much fun. Sad to say that Complextro is definately out ;)

you have a few different issues going on. firstly if you want to adjust the key range so that your sample not only responds to the midi notes but to the pitch as well, you have to change 3 things:

    1) the keyrange in the quickaccess area. this will change the key range that the cell responds to.
    2) enable key track in the setup tab. this will allow all samples in the cell to change pitch in response to the key played (as set by the keyrange). note that when key track is disabled, pitch is determined by the root key and tune knob.
    3) root key sets the original pitch. it's also used for pitch shifting by semitone when you use the keyrange, keytrack and the tune knob.

for your second issue (lpx one octave difference) you must have a transpose setting enabled. in battery, check preferences>general>transpose. make sure its set to 0. this transposes the incoming midi in octaves.

also 'check display middle c as'. make sure it is set to yamaha so that bottom c is C-2 and middle c is C3.

:drummer: Thanks a lot man !!!! But there's one little more thing that I can't find, it's the "check display middle c as" (...) yamaha bottom c... On the battery pdf manual I've searched for "display middle c as" but I found nothing.

I think that everybody have their own way for programing drums, me I like them routing on separate channels in Logic for many reasons : muting them, doing snare rolls, playing them as melodies (most of the time electric percussions, one shot synths...) in one or two instance of Battery with less empty cells as possible in a 4x4 cell matrix size. Because I like to have everything renamed and organized so when I quit a session and I go back on it few days, weeks or months later I can see visually where I was, and see quickly what I have to modify, add or erase, especially for the drums ( automations too; I add a color the patterns where I've made an automation... )

my bad. 'check display middle c as...' is a logic preference. you can find in lpx at preferences>display.

Well to be honest, i am a fucking bad drummer and a fucking bad drum designer. Moreover i am lazy. I mostly use loops. I am on logic so i have to use Fxpansion Geist. Geist kicks my ass day by day, Besides its fucking GUI ;)
