A lot of people who sell sounds, like drums, boast about how they used vintage gear to pump up the sound.
"It went through a Neve console and was recorded on tape bla bla bla "

And when u listen to those sounds on normal or crappy pc speakers at first glance they may appear nice, snappy and boomy.
But as soon as u load them in your DAW and listen more closely on your monitors, you'll hear clicks. :snuffy: And or distortion from the limiter\ compressor they used.

For instance, Producers Choice Vinyl drums. Ready to use sounds they say! *no*
Listen for yourself if u have the kit. Those Kickdrums, at least some of them, have clicks in em.

I hear it a lot, in most "modern " kits.
What do they expect us to do with those already saturated, eq-ed and compressed drums :dunno: ?
I mean i like a bit of dirt, but some kits are just unuseable.

Shouldn't they leave at least some headroom?

There i've said it, it's of my chest.

You have to take losses sometimes. There are very few good drum designers. I hate reading descriptions of kits. They're pure trash and car salesman talk. But taking the loss is upsetting.

Go for clean, unmodified Drum Libraries.
Unfortunately most devs follow the "fashion" bringing crap for the masses.
So it's not easy @ all to find clean sounds! :grooves:

    lol i often think this...

these small companies use neve/ssl desks, vintage tape machines and premium outboard gear to make a $20 drum pack?

    of course its all bullshit...

The only companies i truly believe make decent drums are Drumbroker (illminmd/beat butcha etc) DopeVST (Beat Machine etc) Goldbaby (MPC Drums etc) and MSXII...

i would say Rawcutz/Equipped Music because their samples are amazing but the drums always suck big time!

You can try Gold baby,NDS,Wave Alchemy,Samplephonics. Both are great drum sample company.
I had download too many drum samples from warz site, after a week everything deleted! It's all bullshit!

Yeah I know right?... i think 50% (maybe over 50) of my drumkits are all recycled sounds. Thats how it goes i guess.. and this is a reason why i refuse to buy any drumkit without a review first/ demo

Shiny packaging and clever marketing can make anything look good but in reality many of the sounds are ones you already have that have been repackaged. Stay away from bullshit like Industrykits.com. The drums and Kontakt libraries are absolute crap
Producers choice and drum broker are hit or miss too... I guess it boils down to a matter of personal taste but it pisses me off that some are still paying top dollar for some bullshit that a 19 yr old kid threw together in his bed room

The only kits I have found useful in my productions are..

All MXII, Minty, Illmind and Beat Butcha kits from Drum Broker.

Croup's kits (Deadly and Filthy Drums)

    Monster Kicks and Snares

    Traumah Drums

    Sonic Specialists Urban Fire Series

    Maschines Stock Library

    Mike Chav's Swiss Army Kit

And that's the best for One Hit's....for breaks...Paul Nice Drum Library.

Those are more drums than any Hip Hop head will ever need a lifetime over

You think it's hard getting good drums try writing Industrial, you pretty much have to make all your own and the processing is key. There are practically no good samples out of the box for that genre except for the Portion Control samples in Geist and Heavyocity Damage but sometimes that feels like cheating.

You were doing so well until you mentioned Sonic Specialists...

    $175 per pack?

They sounds are sooooo bad its almost unbelievable...they also use Justin Biebers album cover as a selling point for their products...

I think the Urban Fire packs 1-5 (those are the only ones I have) are very good. They have a bunch of good transients to layer with. They are definitely for the cleaner side of production and those are the ones I grab when trying to lay down a more "polished" track.

Also, I said they are good but...not worth $175 lol...I wouldn't pay $175 for ANY single drum kit.

Goldbaby: Is nice. But i have no use for drums that have already been processed. A lot of his kits are saturated and eq-ed.

Wave alchemy synthdrums: threw it away last week.

Urban Fire: yeah pretty good. But a lot of sounds i would never use.

Traumah drums: Stolen drums with sound fx over them. Like door-slams and broken glass and such. I can make those myself.
(perhaps i will, u can buy em for 170,= still cheaper than Urban Fire  )

Anno Domini: Thanks for the reverb over those snares u a**hole :snuffy:

Illmind: absolute bullshit to me. Erased from my HD.

Drumbroker: the worst i've ever heard.

U can tell when it´s crap. It´s when they tell u that u cannnot do without this.
And that these drums were used by or taken from.....Kanye West, Timbaland, Whiz Kalifa or who ever is hot right now.
But a real give away is the fact that there is absolutely no headroom left. All those drums end up in my recycle bin.

Another thing i don´t understand is the amount of Loop CD´s thats out there.
There must be a shit load of amateurs out there using this crap. Why otherwise are these guys releasing ten Cd´s every week?
Big Fish i hate that sh..

Bass Loops, drumloops, synthloops.........u can´t play em urself?

But most of the time i´m a happy person :bleh:

Hahaha that is true about the Traumah drums. He did layer them witha bunch of abstract sounds like glass smashing and slamming his boyfriends dick in a sliding glass door... who knows

But that being said, I am always looking for out-the-box dums...drum designing is something I get hung up on when making music and if I get too into it...I end up losing my juice for making an actual song.

I'd rather just browse and GO

Lmao, Drumboker do have some gems though imo, Like the beat butcha kit. I never really liked that illmind stuff either but i love the distorded vox phrases kit (forgot the name) he put out. And about the loop stuff. if we're talking about percussion loops and hihats and stuff i dont mind them in fact i love those. but the bigfish and construction kits stuff has to stop yes :') I like the flatline kits too

Raw cutz is a company made with matt from loopmasters and the swedish dude from equipped...

Rawcutz SP1200 kit is total garbage

Drum Brokers kits are the best Boom Bap/Underground Hip Hop style kits out hands down.

Maybe they are awful for EDM.

Yes the SP1200 is not that great regarding drums and breaks. But i got those for the tiny bits of chopped samples. I suggest you try to combine your hip-hop beats with the tiny bits of sax or rhodes they got chopped up for you there, came out great for me :). But if you're into the outddated DJPremier (Wich is still awesome from time to time) stuff the sp1200 and other Rawcutz products might just be the only thing you need

Drumbroker is the worst you've ever heard?...stop lying bro!

Illmind..absolute bullshit?...seriously do you make hip hop? no way on earth can you say his drums are wack...maybe his popularity bugs you for some reason?

basically from your post you have essentially shot down every drum pack manufacturer out there, you even said you can do better yourself...

which begs the question, why have you downloaded just about every drum pack out there?

Sorry, you did mention that you liked the Urban Fire pack which helped make Justin Beibers album...

This explains your odd post i guess...
