    A freind of mine has just had a hdd nightmare and lost, well everything all his tunes all his EVERYTHING lol. (Sorry Si shouldn't laugh), anyway do you's back up your work/files, do you back up everything, or just bits and pieces....I personally back up exes of favourite plugs and samples to an external and I've got hard copies of Cubase etc etc....To be honest it's not that difficult to get things up and running again is it???.....I think the worst thing would be for me would be my music collection, the mere thought sends shivers dopwn my spine!!!!!......What's the best method of backing up????

    HDD are today's cheapest medium to store data and probably the most reliable solution (for a private individual) in case of A/B mirroring. Just do not forget to keep part B on another place (home disasters happen...). My favourite program is Acronis True Image. Powerful and simple to use.

    I also use Acronis TrueImage. Making copies of main HardDrive on a montly (more or less) basis saved my life a couple of times.
    This is not an image that you can store on a DVD but a full everything copy. Should anything go seriously wrong all I have to do is connect the external drive (with the saved stuff) to a USB port, insert the CD boot and follow instructions.. within a couple of hours (depending on the size of the back-up to be done) everything is back as originally (well.. as it was last time I made a back-up copy).

    @Duu, I had a hard drive go out on me recently, posted about it in another thread, and got this reply. Seriously thinking about trying to implement it for myself when I have the money, very interesting solution I think, check it out might work for you or your friend.

    btw, thanks to bseos for the reply

    As ever thanks for the [email protected] lampwiikk the link in your post is dead, but I've had a little google around and sounds good, but already got one pc in bits in the house (hackintosh project), and I don't reckon my mrs would be too impressed with another lol!!!!.....Also after spending most of last night helping my mate re-install everything I've got hold of Trueimage 2011 and am gonna create a back up later on today!!!.....Thanks again

    @lampwiikk,

    Yes, raid 5 rules! But what happens to your data when someone stole the computer (or the array) or when your house is burning? If you want maximum protection, always keep one copy in another place.

    I back up my .exes and project files.

    Need to buy another HDD to back up my samples, cos if I lose my samples my project files are essentially rendered useless too.

    Always back up! In my case when i made the move from vinyl to digital some time ago i learnt when i lost about 5000 tunes *yes* I nearly cried ! and know a good few dj's that have had the same problem.Since then i have backups and backups of them backups which i update monthly! :rofl: I dont have images though as its not a big deal to do a fresh install if lost my main drive on any of my laptops.Just keep the files safe *yes*
    Maybe im a bit OTT but feel its necessary :wink:
