Im trying to get in the habit of making more backups of my samples library on my computer and im after some sort of software that I can use to make life easier

I want to be able to assign the folders I want backing up so that its just a case of me pluging in my external USB drive and it removing any samples from the drive that I have deleted from my PC and syncing any new samples that I have added to my Library rather than having to copy the whole Library over again

Ive heard of RSync before but not sure if this is best for the job?

    Thanks

I use FreeFileSync and very happy with it. One can set rules what to be backed up or copied across to whichever drive you specify. It doesn't compress your files like some backup programs just one to one copies. One of the rules I have set up is to delete any backup files on the destination drive which is not on my "working" drive anymore, in that way any files or programs I don't care for anymore on my main HDD which I have deleted will also be deleted on the destination archive drive avoiding clutter, but one also has to be careful with that rule, say you move a file or folder to any other drive and not exclude that file or folder when you backup it will be deleted from your archive drive as well.

Be very careful with tools like FreeFileSync so that you fully understand what you're doing. I accidentally deleted a folder once that I wanted to backup by using this tool, I thought I understood what I'm doing but I didn't. Make sure to read the manual and get a good grasp of what the icons and buttons mean and do. Then it's a really powerful tool.

What you describe sounds like my dream software. Going to check out FreeFileSync.
