I am a very happy person given the right circumstance kid. If I was in your company then things might be slightly different.

 

So what? How does that inconvenience you? My process is simple. I consider what people say about me. If I agree with them, then there is no stress because they are recognizing how I have chosen to be. If I disagree with them, there is no stress because since it doesn't apply to me, there is no need to take it personally. That covers about 99.9% of situations. See how easy it is? It's pointless to overreact yourself only because you think others are overreacting, it compounds the problem.

No doubt! But if you believe in personal responsibility, then isn't them being scared their own problem? It makes people seem insecure in their beliefs. I have often been flamed by a room full of outraged people, even long before the current polarized social climate. The key is to not lose your composure. People try to escalate tension because they want YOU to react, it takes discipline not to. I prefer for people to stay and enjoy the discussion, but IMO it takes a thin skin to leave because somebody called you a name or label on the internet.
