I was doing a live sound gig. During sound check I had everything sounding good, then my driver just did a quick fade and refused to work, and my PreSonus Audiobox1818 was pretty much useless then. Wasn't online, and my audio computer doesn't have wi-fi. Just before that, Windows claimed it was doing some kind of update (not online?). I didn't want that going on at that particular time, so I stopped it and then did a reset. A few minutes later, I could see signal getting into the DAW channels, but it didn't show in headphones or mains, no matter how I tried to route or restart. (it worked for a while after reset) Had to make a quick change to an old mixer and run the show with that. What a pained, long day that made, and I missed the tools in FatChannel section. When I got my computer home online, I uninstalled the old driver and re-installed newest version, and seems fine now. To avoid this sort of thing in the future, I'd like to understand what happened. Any explanations? Also, can I have a back up driver application copy on an external HD, so if this happens again I can easily (and quickly) re-install without internet? Do I always have to pack a back up real mixer? I may have had worse days pretending to be a sound re-enforcement engineer/fader jockey, but I would have to think pretty hard.
