I've been decluttering this week and came upon a Symetrix 528E channel strip that I bought for like 50 bucks about 12 years ago thinking that it might sound better than the RME Babyface preamps (shortly afterwards got a Warm Tonebeast which smoked it) that I was using to record with. It really didn't sound better and maybe worse with less detail, different maybe, but not "better". Since nobody will ever probably buy it I had a thought! Perhaps to warm up it's tone, and since the ovens around here are are about 19 inches wide, I have since installed it in the kitchen, and to my great surprise it now sounds really great!!!

 

I'm suspecting that this is how you really burned your hand?

 

This guy on reverb has one listed and it does not even come with an oven.

He'll never sell it at that price. I bought mine for 50 bucks AND the guy threw in a Symetrix SX 202 dual mic preamp for free WITH a rack extension for it! I actually just dropped the whole bunch at the local thrift store, . I've been decluttering this week.

P.S. The mod makes it quieter, beefs up the power supply and smooths up the eq section...for $299.

A few years ago I asked Jim Williams if he would hot rod it for me but with shipping etc, it was a silly idea. I bought a Neve 1073 DPA for cheap a few weeks ago, so I'm all good to go.
