OT: It's due to a well known issue with MOTU drivers and AMD USB/chipset drivers. Interestingly, Behringer managed to make great drivers that aren't affected by the problem already ten years ago.
All the MOTU people on AMD affected by the bugs are still waiting for a fix for years already.
I don't want to be too judgemental but had I known how bad the MOTU win drivers are I'd have bought something else. Supposedly their MAC drivers are good??

Too bad RME is out of my budget.

There are totalmix tutorials on YouTube that are worth watching. 30-40 minutes at most and you'll be set for life.

I could not figure out totalmix on my own either.

Motu is the biggest crap in terms of drivers for Mac (I don't know about PC but probably more of the same). Had an interface years ago and it was a torment to make it sync when changing sample rate - even in normal use it wouldn't sync and made me waste so much time - worst experience ever. Never again - won't be investing a cent in any of their stuff. Many better interfaces/better sounding choices out there.

    RME HDSPe AIO
I think around 8 years (main PC rig)
disadv: onboard DSP has no EQ+Dynamics, random electrical noise into outputs transfered via motherboard + graphics card + power supply loop unless decoupled ground from audio signal path

    RME Fireface 802
around 5 years (sold few years ago)
disadv: no physical control of MainOut
adv: gain control on line inputs in the back

    RME Babyface (blue)
    around 4 years (gave away)
disadv: onboard DSP has no Dynamics, only EQ
adv: MainOut volume can be controlled by multimedia keyboard hotkeys from Windows and MacOS

    RME Fireface UFX
around 5 years (main recording rig)
adv: onboard EQ+Dynamics, mappable MainOut control to any output, perfect starting point for whole band rig
disadv: digitally-controlled mic gain has first step of 10dB, line ins in the back have no gain control

    RME ADI-2 DAC
around 4 years (main mixing rig)
adv: remote control, no drivers needed for Class-Compliant use, standalone operation as DAC, source switching (USB/coax/optical), loudness curve, very clean sound, various DA filters to choose from
disadv: no TotalMix, drivers needed for ASIO on Windows, no analog/line inputs

(all purchased in used condition, from various countries, online/local markets etc...)

I am using MOTU 828ES MK2 with my Macs. Something like 4 years old. There are better, but for the quality of audio, connectivity, AVB + wireless, onboard DSP, any of the "better" interfaces I was looking at were all in the 2 to 4 times the price range. One Sunday on a holiday weekend, I ran into a problem with the Web Interface and called tech support, left a message. A tech called me back from home, in about an hour. (It was user error anyway). Both hobby and pro would be fair.

At 64 samples buffer, I am at 3.7 ms round trip latency in Logic. USB2 connected to old mac pro 5.1. The mixing software is similar to RME, where it is probably more complex than it should be. Still, worth every dime. Cons: none but not cheap.

Lucky you - many people reporting problems with motu drivers for years and years.

I had this problem upgrading my laptop to Ventura too soon. I waited a month for compatible software. I had many problems with the Focusrite 18i20's software, which it replaced. The routing and mixer aspects of the MOTU software took a little initial learning, but after that 0 problems. I am not using it wirelessly at all.

Actually, RME products are partially made in Germany and partially made in China (as almost all electronics are).

I'm still dreaming about a modern day

    M-Audio Fast Track Pro

for gigs. It was very small, cheap, reliable and had two inserts to use external FX.

-can't really use external hardware stuff without sacrificing monitors or headpones, or wiring up an external converter. ....
you would have saved a little more and bought the larger model, probably more effective

Audient Evo 16 seems to be a really interesting interface, but I have heard very different opinions. it would be really great if you could share your experiences with us in detail.

somehow i have always met very satisfied customers of motu drivers and i was often told that motu is on a par with RME in terms of driver quality, but apparently there is also a flip side to this.
