Which audio interface are you using? currenty Steinberg UR24C

How long have you had your audio interface? 2.5 years had ur22 but that in a baox in germany

What advantages or disadvantages have you found with your audio interface? Personally it just works and integrates great with Cubase. i have had loads of others from cheap to top dollar units with loads of crap i dont need price to value is great alot better then the MOTU i used for years that sounded great but always having driver issues became tiring

Are you professional or a hobby musician? somewhere in the middle

driver problems are very untypical for motu, actually the stable motu driver is a reason to buy for many buyers, but of course such problems can always happen occasionally.

 

RME Fireface 800

17 years.

With a 2019 macbook w/ thunderbolt3, dongling is annoying. As AFAIK no dongle exists for that application. Just the fw400 to thunderbolt2 then another dongle to convert tb2 to tb3. FF800 hasn't been used in 3 years so anybody correct me if my info is bad.

But I used the same Rme on apple g4's, g5's, hackintosh's, window7.

Sounded great & never let me down.

Semi pro now a hobbist.

- Advantages: cheap (at the time?) for what it delivers. Really great drivers (edit: for the record, they are the same drivers as the Steinberg interfaces). Can use all outputs at the same time. Build quality is excellent.
- Disadvantages: only two channels for a mixer. Can't do real time hardware inserts.

Are you professional or a hobby musician?
- In between both worlds, currently not full time but still on commission

RME babyface pro fs.. very solid unit .. wish I had more inputs and outputs .. plan on expanding with adat hopefully it works just as good with a mixer

-RME Babyface Pro FS
-idk, 3 years or so? Bought it shortly after it came out
-can't really use external hardware stuff without sacrificing monitors or headpones, or wiring up an external converter.
-Hobby musician, but have used it for professional non-music related stuff. This thing is reliable AF.

 

I'm on win 10 and latency usually sits around 1.5/2.5ms when I set it to 128 or 64 buffer length (with "safe mode" turned on).

 

Audient Evo 16 (I'm waiting for the little sister audient sp8 for drum recording). One Week. Good drivers and good routing software. Good latency roundtrip but I Never use direct monitorig in Reaper or studio One. I use external Preamps or analog monitoring for headphones with an old Mackie.
Internal preamps are very clean. 2 Jfet input DI for guitar and bass. Automatic gain.
Lots of inputs and ouput for my mics and preamps.

Chalk up another RME Babyface Pro FS.

I got mine very early 2020.

Have owned 4 or 5 other audio interfaces over many years. Most were junk that were starting to fall apart by the time I'd had them for a year. One by M-Audio was actually pretty good but it became obsolete when they stopped updating it, along with changes in connectivity designs by computer makers that made for EOL on it. The Babyface is the only one I've ever owned where I've not had one single minute of downtime, never a glitch, nothing. It just always works, and works well.

The only disadvantage for me personally is the TotalMix software its bundled with. Some people seem to get TotalMix right off the bat. Honestly, I'm always a bit puzzled by it, and wish RME would develop a version that could accomplish all the same functions but presents with a GUI that you just look at and quickly know how it works. I'll probably always find TotalMix a bit of a mystery

Thank you, I've tried it. I know this probably sounds really dumb, but felt like I was cheating using that mini version of it so I always go back to the full version hoping one day it will gel. I'm stubborn.

Great preamps, easy to use and rock solid.

I used to be ½ time pro.... these days Im doing editing and stuff for fun.
