very cool, I didn't know that one before

  2. Was my question really so ridiculous? Yes I was serious, I explained that I'm looking at a Fireface UCX II but it was a bit much for me, it was worth asking, for all I know they could be bringing something out more inbetween the Babyface and Fireface UCX II - if I can't ask something like that here then where? Maybe signing up here was a mistake, back to lurking, bye.

  3. Thanks, I'll have a proper look at the UFX II then, if I'm spending proper money I might as well get something that ticks all the boxes, cheers.

if i want to buy a musical instrument, then i look at how far it meets my expectations and if it fits then i buy it. i don't wait 2 years until a newer model comes out with more possibilities (if i would make my decision on this basis, then i would have to wait a lifetime, because there are always improvements and new models on the market).

and if you are so sensitive that you feel offended just because of 2 smileys, then i don't know ...

but i wish you all the best, whatever you decide.

    RME Digiface + Audient ID22

The Digiface gives me 4 x ADAT (32 channels of in/out in all)

2 x ADAT in/outs (16 channels) are connected to my modular with Expert Sleepers (1 x ES8, 1 x ES3/ES-6 combo) - these dc-coupled interfaces let me send and receive both CV and audio.

1 x ADAT in/out (8 channels) is connected to a Behringer AD8200 A/D converter which I use as inputs for hardware synths (the ADAT output to that is just used to clock it)

1 x ADAT in/out is connected to the Audient ID22 which gives me a handy desktop monitor controller with a big volume knob, headphone amp, a DI input and a couple of very nice Mic Pres.

It's a very flexible combination and I get the excellent RME Digicheck too.

It really is. It's a tiny little box which is completely hidden in my studio and yet it's the heart of everything.

Wow 10 pages already? I'm late to the party with my 1st post but to answer the OP's question...
Antelope Audio Discrete 4 Synergy Core (legacy / non-Pro version)

    Bought in May 2021

    Advantages:
--Great sound. I did my research at the time and I bought it with the belief that it was the best quality hardware/sound for its price, and that belief was not shaken after hearing for myself. It sounds really good. The only other interface I've compared it to is the Audient iD14 mk1, I was able to A-B compare with that side by side and the Antelope was definitely a step up from the Audient. Compared to that, the converters make my monitors sound amazing, lots of clarity and detail, nice soundstage and front-back depth, very clean. The Audient had a tiny bit more weight in the low end, but it also sounded murkier / cloudier overall compared to the Discrete4 which had more punch and clarity and depth.
--The headphone amp makes my headphones sound better.
    --The preamps are very clean.
--Their FPGA plugins that run on the hardware sound very good. Honestly their Fairchild emulation is the best I've heard.

    Disadvantages:
    Where to start.
--They are a shady company with dodgy business practices. Their lack of care for the end-user experience has made me consider selling several times. I probably would've sold already if I wasn't too lazy to research a worthy replacement in my price range. So many little things that add up. Too many examples to list. Misleading marketing, leaving out key details about future compatibility. Broken promises about products. A lot of products being widely buggy for many users but they release new products before they fix the old. They turn products into "legacy" products quickly.
--Their software sucks. Clunky to use, and often buggy. Their tech support has improved as far as responsiveness, but the staff don't seem very smart.
--The workflow of their mixer panel interface is confusing to use, it creates resistances in my mind to doing anything with it cos it's a headfuck to use.
--The workflow of using their FPGA sucks. You have to route the plugins as a hardware insert in your DAW. They made a plugin to do the routing for you called AFX2DAW but it was a disaster and many people couldn't get it working. Plus it's thunderbolt only so I couldn't even try it. They also tried to charge users $200 to buy it when really it is a utility plugin that they should've had from the start.
--Dont even get me started on the "native plugin" debacle. This is the main reason I want to sell. They released their FPGA plugins in native vst, and they want users who already own the FPGA counterparts to pay for the native versions. Think how uad have customers the native versions for free if they already owned it. Well Antelope don't do that, you have to buy the subscription EVEN IF YOU ALREADY BOUGHT IT. I spent hundreds of dollars on their plugins, no way in hell am I paying for the plugins all over again. I can't begin to tell you how frustrated and disenchanted it made me feel. I've never felt that angry as a customer before. And their response to customers in forums and email made me angrier.

I read all the Antelope horror stories on the internet but I thought they were just being whiney people and thought my experience would be dufferent. Now I'm one of those people, lol.
They incentivise positive reviews on the internet by giving users free plugins. I know because I did it.

Speaking personally: I'm not fanboy of anything. RME it's simply a great brand that makes the best drivers (from a stability/efficiency/support in years point of view) in the business with a good/more than good audio/construction quality. No suprise that many many people recommends RME products, it's just that simple.

Pro Audio = RME. Analyze it.
For example, when you want room correction, check 9632.
    cheap and effective.
You can do it with an Behringer microphone (for room correction)
RME = State of the Art.

I had a chance to make a comparison in my studio. Conversion AD/DA is exactly the same. To summarize Anubis is only Ravenna while MT 48 is USB too and has on board Adat optical. Anubis has different Missions, and music Mission is more powerful, you can use till to 5 cues on Anubis, only 2 on MT 48, and add Eventide Blackhole plugins and additional Deesser with zero latency as well as native Sonarworks. Both are very good products in my opinion

Still using my FA-101. Getting a compatible pci-ex firewire card was a little bit difficult, but that is solved, so...
