Im looking for a Audio mutitrack waveform editor. Let me explain what I'm looking for: some samples in a horizontal timeline, or your recorder synth, and you can compare both audio track, both audio lanes so to speak. I know this feature exists in pro tools, but there is no trial except for a load of ilok software on my pc. Vogalign does this as wel, but its not convenient for only instruments.

I find arranging like this exceptionally good, as you know where you can place your bass for example without it to clash with other synths.

    Can anyone recommend such software?

Mh, I'm not sure what you mean. I couldn't find a pic of any special pro tools audio editor.

If you're talking just about displaying the waveform in each recorded track (one below the other), this can be done by every DAW, afaik.

I can definetely recommend MuLab 8 for this. :dunno:

But pretty much every other DAW can do this too.

    ^ Or Logic.
    Or Cubase.
    Or Ableton Live.
But samples and audio are the same thing.

Vocalign doesn't do what you said per se; it's a plugin that works within any of the afore mentioned DAWs. But it does time-stretch multiple vocal takes to one preferred take. And yes, not just vocals.

I'm wondering, from the first vid you put up, if you are more referring to time-stretching?
Which, afaik, most DAWs can do.
When you talk of "bass clashing with synths", I reckon you are meaning timing-wise? i.e. being able to zoom in and move regions on a per tick basis?

Anyways. You have your answer from the first response. But I wasn't sure your question was as concise as you wanted it to be?

Yeah....but wow, I like the way MuLab seems to work, creativity-wise (speed / ease).
Maybe I am impressed due to not knowing the other DAWs well enough?
I may try it out...easy enough to link the audio streams.
I'd envisioned using some sampler like this but did not casually bump into one that seemed as simple.

Huh? hehe. Just as any other DAW. I don't see any 'linking' as such, either. Just have your grid displaying properly, and your 'snap' type of settings, and you're good to go, in any DAW.
This is how we've been sequencing audio since the '90s.

This is probably just because it does this on intention. Customers of other daw's do not want to happen this on intention so they added an extra function for this type of sound designs. It's all about the target group. I'm pretty sure there is a major lack of functions in other fundamental things. At least in a workflow manner.

What I mean with pro tools is there is a feature called Beat Detective, where you basically easily can oversee the allignment of your several audio recording / sample layers, which makes editing far more easier.

Let me rephrase my question, I want to edit my multitrack recordings, or import samples like in mulab. Yes you are right, I want to edit regions on a per tick basis, which I know basically any DAW can do, but not as convenient as Mulab or Protools (albeit with or without stretching). Afaik there is no multitrack editing in ableton, unless with the workaround when you set your loop braces in arrangement view and start overdubbing, but its not really multitrack editing like in aforementioned daws.

Cakewalk (former Sonar) can do this too. It's called Loop Construction. The slice markers can be generated automatically based on transients or just taken from ACIDized files. There's also a quite old tutorial for this on SOS, but the basic functionality is still the same.

Since Cakewalk is free now, you could just give it a try.

back in the day, SoundForge was great for these tasks or CoolEditpro, before it got eatten up.

@OP are you simply doing "tasks" or are you creating music?

I just noticed the R2R Acid release on sister site, and I reminisce...it's the first program I used after a very early version of Cakewalk, and i did not slice and dice that much but arranging some guitar, bass and drum loops I recorded myself.
I tried MuLab some & it was fun but now I think i must revisit Acid,
and wonder if it might not be a candidate for what @alex921 wants?

Oh, i meant, since it is not a plugin, syncing it with my other DAW.
I know I can route the audio easily, but syncing is another matter for me!
...although FL Studio as plugin is interesting too (and in Acid Pro, too) Hmmmmmm.
I used to do that with Sonar, until I found myself just using FL Studio alone.

    :winker:

Yeah, NuLab comes across as a bit Acid/REX like I suppose.
But, regardless of time stretching or not, I still put it all down to just setting your grid conveniently (including zooming in, usually) and making sure your 'snap to grid' options are set how you want them; in any DAW.

Before time stretching/condensing we had to print audio of regions that we wanted to destructively change with timing or pitch. And in Logic we've always had Time & Space Machine, which, if you knew how to use it properly, could do anything we wanted.
And the result was exactly the same as we hear in the example above.
    ...just took longer! lol
Nothings changed, apart from being able to get to our destination quicker.
I wonder sometimes, if it only truly makes sense if one has had to endure all the years of lead up to this point.

Its' not actually how you've envisaged it.
Quote from WikiAudio: "With Beat Detective you can: Extract a tempo map from audio or MIDI material. Create a digigroove (groove template) Conform audio to a tempo map."
Logic Pro does all this perfectly. And, as far as I know, was doing it way before ProTools.
    Logic user since '99.
