    Hello
I will be short 'cause I'm from my mobile

Some samples I got are slightly asymmetrical. I'm not talking about DC offset where the entire wave is shifted. It's the same phenomen when you highpass some waveforms and they get a bit asymmetric.

Anyway the problem is: when you turn up the volume, you have less headroom than normal. Is this something I should be worried about? I know the way is "trust your ears" but I'm concerned that it could affect the whole mix. What's the trick here, not only with samples but synths as well? Becausr you hear one thing but the meter tells you another.

Let's say I have a kick that is asymmetrical. Lowering the volume of all the other stuff is enough to solve the problems? What are your thoughts?

    Thanks

    ~ Backtired

    No, it's not a problem.

You should be mixing with plenty of headroom anyway, running out of headroom shouldn't be an issue.

Everytime I use my tube preamp it makes the wavs shift. They become top heavy

Dkny: yes, that's what I do. I was wondering if that's a problem later on (the fact that there's a huge asymmetry) especially when raising the overall volume

Is the headroom the only consequence of this problem? If so, the only way is to balance volume levels by ear? What happens when I maximize the track then? If the kick is asymmetric, won't I lose a lot or volume?
