    Hi guys,

I am encountering a very weird problem and hoping that someone could give me insight or solution to it.

I am exporting my mix from Studio One using asio4all latest version. The mix inside the daw is punchy with heavy but sweet low end (wherever it is required) and a bigger sound stage. All sounds are very well balanced and flowing. But when I listen the mix on Windows media player, it sounds very thin with less dynamics, small soundstage and full of high end. i.e., treble. I tried winamp and quicktime players but results are still the same.

I have checked if there are any effects enabled inside the players but everything seems to be fine.

I have checked the same on my sound card (IDT high definition audio codec - HP Pavilion g6 Notebook laptop, Win 10) but no effect and it is also ok too. I have tried changing the playback quality 16, 24 bits 44100 and 48000 but mix still sounds like there is no bass end but lot of high frequencies. My export audio settings are mp3 320kb x 44100 and wav 16bit x 44100. Here is an example of what I am exporting https://instaud.io/b6j Mixing sounds ok (to my ears) but still some adjustment needed which is not my concern right now.

I don't know what else I should check. A dedicated audio interface is not that I can comfortably purchase right now but I will for sure so any recommendation keeping in mind the low latency and high accuracy will be handy. Meanwhile I will really appreciate if somebody could suggest me the solution of this issue please.

    Much obliged.

Its windows media player codec... in theory all players will use different codecs and the sound "could be" different in every player.. i have the same problem with windows media player..my mix does not sound right... so i use gomplayer and itunes...and they are more accurate..goodluck!

WMP, Winamp, Quicktime, all this have EQ, check these setting and make sure they are neutral and all Auto stuff off?

One tip is to try your mix in car stereo to see how it sound, then fix from there, repeat. Second tip, read below link. You dont need use these songs, but pick a song (famous artist?) you think sound good across audio players. A-B compare this song to yours. Listen and see what is different, adjust your song to try to match.

    Hope this help you little.

Thank you. I will have a look.

Bro, I have checked eq of all players; in fact the first thing I checked was eq but they are disabled. But it's a good idea to listen in the car stereo to see the difference as well as pick up one from your link and see how it sounds. I usually finalize my mixes on computer then listen on various places to know how they sound. Thank you for your suggestions.

It's frustrating, it's deceiving. It's stopping me to complete my songs :(

Disable all the Windows and soundcard sound settings. Look if you have loudness, eq and evironment settings off. I assume you have environment settings tweaked somehow. Or look at soundcard driver/software settings.

    Hi,

Thank you guys for your support and trying to figure out, and I admit you all were right. In fact, I was also right but perhaps out of frustration or what not, I have overlooked to simply 'un-tick' a box shown in this image. @Alpha0ne actually the word 'enviroment' led me to look for 'enhancement' again. So thank you again for that. Regards.
