Hello

I am going to download some of the Arturia sound banks but I am wondering if they have to be put in the Arturia folder for the presets on my Mac or can I tell Arturia to look to an external hard drive?

On Mac, they are located Library>Arturia, and I have created a symlink for this location to my external..

 

So I can create a link in the Arturia folder to look at the location on my external hard drive, perfect. May I ask how you went about creating it? Thanks

I used Symlinker, which is pretty logical to use. It asks where the source location is, and where you'd like to symlink it to..
the result looks like an alias.. so you have, in my case, the Arturia folder on my external (source) and the symlink is pointing to the correct location (Library>Arturia) .. Hope that helps!

 

Are you saying that holding down option + command on the folder you moved externally and draging to the original position does not make a symlink on Mac? I learned from making a symlink for the Steam folder for Omniphere may years ago.
However when I try that on Arturia it does not work.

 

I am not aware of that command, but I also believe Spectrasonics will work using a simple shortcut link as opposed to a symlink. Symlinks are different in that they actually imitate the original folder as opposed to a link to the folder. You may possibly know this already, but just in case as simply using a shortcut may not work in every instance.

That will only give you an ALIAS, which is easily broken..Symlink is your goal

 

Right, when I have downloaded the Arturia sound banks folder...can I just link it to the presets folder or do I have make a symlink for every single instrument folder ie Analog Lab etc. Also will the link still be recognised when plugged in again if for som reason I have to unplug the hard drive

 

Sounds like you're new to this; be careful not to overwrite any of the existing presets. You want to merge the new ones with the existing ones. If you are moving all of them eventually to an external drive, see above, for creating that symbolic link FOR THE ENTIRE Arturia FOLDER.

Dude! Symlink the ENTIRE System>ARTURIA Folder! It includes everything there; Have a look!
