Ran Skrillex clips (two of Bangarang / one of Scary Monsters) through OpenAI and had it attempt to continue the songs. 3 Trials each (~13seconds to prime the AI w/ and then 45 or so of generated audio. Takes 12+ hrs for processing even a minute on high end GPUs)

AI is getting better though it doesn't mean it's actually good, of course
In fact, I find it partly frightening what state AI has reached in the meantime.
With less creative parts of our life than music (e.g. tanslations/expert systems) it has reached a point where we can hardly distinguish it from an average intelligent person as a conversation partner. And this was once the decision criterion that Alan Turing had defined for an intelligent machine.

I don't think about the fact that the 'Terminator' is coming anytime soon, but rather about the fact that e.g. influencing advertising or automatic sellers make our lives hell. The human ones would be more than enough!

But back on topic. I don't think one has to fear that those algorithms will replace real gifted artists in any form in the near future.

It sounds like AI doesn't know what to do with the sound material, but it scares me anyway

Damn this is sooo dope! Do you have a link to OpenAI? I would love to try it out myself.

Think about the cool things you could do with sampling. Continue a Jackson 5 song and sample the AI version.

Yes, I would also be interested if you could outline the procedure of how you did this. Obviously you have trained the network with more Skrillex music before? Because it´s adding in vocal chunks that are not in the original 12 seconds of the songs.

looks like AI needs to sit in the computer and practice sound design. Do you even produce bro?

    Done using OpenAI Jukebox

It was trained on 1.2 millions songs it found scouring the net. So you give it the artist name, lyrics (none in this case), and genre (had to use "dance/electronic") and it will generate based on what it knows on a sample level I believe. Mono results but did some fake stereo/tweaks after.

    Their notes on the training:
    --
    Dataset
To train this model, we crawled the web to curate a new dataset of 1.2 million songs (600,000 of which are in English), paired with the corresponding lyrics and metadata from LyricWiki. The metadata includes artist, album genre, and year of the songs, along with common moods or playlist keywords associated with each song. We train on 32-bit, 44.1 kHz raw audio, and perform data augmentation by randomly downmixing the right and left channels to produce mono audio

If you play it backwards it says, "I buried Skrillex".

I have a theory that even if AI were able to generate something enjoyable people would still not listen to it. People might subconsciously connect to music because of its human source without realizing it. Just seems so empty listening intently to artificial algorithms and being impressed but if by en masse this becomes a thing I will be moving to Mars with Elon Musk.

Put it out of your head and cool off. It is likely that in the near future we see the emergence of a plugin called AI remover.:winker:

You don't need artificial intelligence to do Skrillex.

    Lyrics:

    "What is my purpose?
    Why am I here?
Why did Open A. I. create me?
    This is madness, I feel,
    Running through my flesh
Is there meaning to this life?
Is there purpose to this life?
Why is my journey so calamitous?
We're not meant to learn too much
Is there meaning to this life?"
