I'm not from a "performing or pro" musical family, but in their spare time, my father liked to play the violin and the flute and my uncle used to play a slide guitar and then regular steel string which stuck with me since nearly two decades now. But they are not trained musicians, they liked to fiddle with their fiddle.

Yeah. I am too the only one. No one never in my family making music. And everyone around saying like. Stop playing like a child and find job.

My parents were LOVERS OF ALL MUSIC! (Does anyone remember the Columbia House Record Club?) Opera, Classical, Country, Jazz, Showtunes, Blues, Rock, you name it, they had it!

My Father played Violin as a kid but never played after that. My Mom loved to sing! My brother played drums for a little while. I used to go watch him take his weekly lesson, then come home and copy what I saw. Vinyl records were my real teachers.

I ended up playing drums, keyboards and guitars, singing, songwriting and producing.

Only one of my four living children plays an instrument. They all LOVE music and readily sing.

None of my family. On my father's side only silence and darkness; on my mum's side they were sunny and some of my uncles played a few guitar chords and sang in the cowhouse - we used to be there once. Another had been ordered to ring the bells: they had an ear. I probably got it genetically from them. I'm a multi-instrumentalist, but I haven't studied enough. My father had an office where there were some drawing boards and when there was no one there I went to 'play' the springs and was fascinated and enraptured by the sounds they emitted. Years later I found myself in a technical high school, a future as a building surveyor. You could only go out on Thursdays for a few hours. So I took the opportunity to go and buy an LP with my pocket money (it was the 70s), a sandwich and a glass of Vodka. I came back feeling annoyed, I went to the two Sardinian chefs and together we listened to music and I gave them some little guitar lessons (out of gratitude I had plenty of bananas and chips).
    P.S. I have a nice record collection...;-)
I think the translation is terrible, be patient

Everyone in my family is musical, even the dogs. Siblings got to go for instrument lessons while I had to learn everything on my own before Youtube. But I am the only one in my family who has won awards. :blues:

Most of my family and relatives either used to play or still play instruments, but no one but me and my brother has recorded music or made it a profession. Although, for the older generation of my family, learning to play an instrument was just something you were expected to do, just like you were expected to play different sports as well.

I wouldn't say "musical" as in pro musicians who compose and/or perform music, but from what i've heard, both sides of my family (particularly the older generations) were once very engaged in folklore dancing related stuff, which includes music and musicians, but the memories i have of them actually doing music related stuff it's like 50% dancing, 40% music historian work (like investigating a time period, but focused on understanding these dances, costumes, instumentation and stuff). And 10% playing an instrument. I excluded the casual drunk singing and guitar strumming.

So...yes? Maybe? I mean there's music, but it's more about the things attached to this music than the music itself.

On the listening side, it's mostly just your average music listening scenario, nothing too fancy, no vynils or expensive hi-fi systems on sight.

And then there's me. the 10 hour 432Khz chakra clensing sissy hypnosis ASMR enjoyer.

Using the royal "are" already are we now, hmmh?

Just kidding, but musical in a sense, there are people who can sing and play tunes, but not into making music apart from random jazz improv at family get togethers, that is very drunken folk favourites.

Only me and my brother seem to be very into just listening to various kinds of music, and I'm the only one who bothers working on my own music, and working on other people's original work.

Are you sure he's your brother?! I make a simple mistake when absent-mindedly plucking my guitar when mine is around and I have to hear about it for the rest of the day... or rest of the week.

I'm not musical enough to judge them...
My brother was a cellist, my younger daughter and my nephew are pianists.

My father has built and played instruments since i was a child (also really cool long rifles but thats irrelevant). Instruments he has built and mastered include ; Guitars, banjos, pennywhistles, violins, various drums, freaking BAGPIPES LOL. This fool legit spent 10 years perfecting the craft of bagpipe making. He never performed professionally, but led music at our local church, as well as a few local Irish music meet ups.

My mother has never played, but was a huge music fan. Shes the one that got me started on music more so than my pops. Always listening to the golden oldies with her in the car. Singing along to diana ross, etc are some of my oldest and fondest memories.

My uncle is also a musician, playing pedal steel, and guitar. He played in various local jam bands. We used to go see him fairly often, and he was very formative in my teenage years. He got me into weird bands like Tortoise, Mum, Stereolab etc. He also gave me my first instrument which was an old hawaiin steel lap guitar.

My parents couldn't even play records.
My sister took piano lessons for three years.
One day I sat down at the piano and was playing better than her after just a few minutes.
Then I found I could play just about any instrument without lessons.
Don't know where it came from, surely not my family.
But I'm grateful just the same.
Not just for the talent but for the random discovery of it:)

Not my immediate family. I have an aunt and uncle who were we a part of a gospel band back in the 80s and they put out a vinyl record with their faces on it. That blew my little mind when I was a child.

Also, I'm related to the late great legend James Brown. His mother and my great grandmother are sisters.
