I see a lot of people complaining about software - just saying the have grown to hate their jobs.
I sympathize with them. I have been there myself, not currently, but I have been there.
I think there are things that are specific to the software industry - but I think some of it is just working a 9 to 5 job in general.
Some days are just a grind. Some days are not fun. Some days you don't want to go to work.
That's life. I don't know what I can say to make it easier. Part of life is getting accustomed to the grind.
This isn't to say you shouldn't better you situation if you can. But - sometimes instead of migrating we need to adapt.
Just my opinion, take it for what it is worth to you.

(I'm not talking about being sick of the job here. Bit off topic but I'm talking about the fear and worries of someone looking to pursue software dev. Any advice would be highly appreciated btw!)

That's an interesting take. I'm about to complete my first year studying Computer Science engineering for my Undergrad(My father is a self taught software developer) and I think one common issue most people face with software development, and the idea of pursuing it as career is that its unbelievably saturated, requires you to sit on your ass for 8 hours a day, but still pays well. Personally, I am genuinely worried about my physical and "mental" health going into software dev. Burnout seems inevitable, software devs quitting to pursue stand-up is meme material, and the idea of most likely being another cog in the machine that is some random huge MNC that's invariably fucking me over(say google, facebook, or amazon) is pretty dull for my liking. I understand that sometimes we have to suck it up and do things because its the responsible thing to do or it's better in the long run, but software dev is a lot more taxing than most people assume it to be from what I can tell and from just observing my father in general. [and the fact that everyone and their brother is pursuing software dev, irrespective of whether they enjoy it or whether its the best career path for them, but because it pays well and i's the craze isn't helping at all]

    Sick as hell ..
Alone maintaining 50+ complex business critical custom applications that I have developed and are responsible for during 25years, both customer applications and business-internal,. Millions of transactions every day. At a company with a multi billion net profit every year the last decades. Except from me, my colleague who was a consultant, was the only resource with maintenance knowledge. His contract basically got terminated a month ago and no replacement in sight. And a new resource/replacement won't help me as it takes a 10+ years learning curve of experience to maintain the shit.

imo it's boring, coding is mostly about stealing and exploiting previously written bits of code to achieve something,
and the result is not even a product, merely a licensed abstraction to be used, yet its functionality is "timely" limited to operating system lifespan,
it's so accessible that literally every child not even with graduation can become a great coder, for a while...

i once had a 6 to 1 job - and that is not a joke.

close to 400 hours per month is incompatible with life.

then i decided to quit everything and just do arts, music, politics and charity.

worked well for the last 22 years.

That's true, but if you're not happy working for someone else, work for yourself. But for most people the comfort of getting a salary is more important than the freedom of working in what they really like. Most people don't even have an idea of what their dream job would be anyway.

Many young people overestimate their strength and that leads to burnout. It usually takes 1 to 2 years before the head is clear again. This experience is then mostly used to do something else in life. Some also have an accident and then wake up. some dropouts no longer felt like working for the profits of their boss.
They emigrated or took part in other projects. In our city there are 3 companies where everyone earns the same and everyone has the same say. The people there are happy. If you look at how people are rushed and overwhelmed, you will find that the system in which they live is not humane.

"Don't Panic!" ...A.I. is coming to steal everyone's job ... just be patient lol

Too many people nowadays choose a career based on salary or social status, many having no love of it. Life is short. Do something you love :)

Machines will make better decisions than people. The robot doesn't sleep, doesn't go on strike, doesn't need a vacation. Many machines in the landscape have made our lives easier. At the beginning, the post took 6 weeks for the stagecoach to come by. Then the car came and the mail only took 2 days. Now we have e-mail and electronic mail only takes 5 seconds. Everything technical has its advantages and disadvantages.
Here they are building the first hydrogen-powered buses. On some roofs you can see solar panels that generate electricity and heat the water.

" Nothing in this world is more dangerous than genuine ignorance and a certain degree of stupidity." (Martin Luther King)
" The problem in this world is that the intelligent people are so full of self-doubt and the stupid are so full of self-confidence. " (Charles Bukowski)

It'll be interesting to see how much tax they pay, or if they contribute to pension funds etc

If they don't, then there's a huge problem for all of us

Or an unconditional basic income. The best thing to do is to give each citizen 2000 EUR.
