good to have this thread... yeah I have been over my addiction for 2 years maybe?.. but I admit, with the reappearance of Modulus, I've had to "go to some meetings" (AA lingo), and get re-acquainted with "sobriety" :D

I figure UAD is the ultimate plugin move... even if people don't agree they are worth it. I used to be rly addicted a few years ago (VSTi) - when Omnisphere first came out - I hoarded everything. Nao, it seems like I only hoard FX plugs that I never use! One addiction at a time!

Can you really "master" something liek Cubase (or any DAW), tho? Still finding out new shit, and I've been using it for beards...

But it's useful to have legit stuff sometimes, even if you use (superior) k'd versions (Altiverb IRs et al). Also, w/o try before buy I'd never have bought any of the stuff I use regularly... Hopefully one day everything is donationware, all DAW manufacturers band together and make a modular uber DAW...

Why would anyone here want a newly cracked cubase if S1 is the best daw in the world.

I would only add that without the hoarders, without nervous amateurs who cant afford stuff, without the ones who dont know what they need and what they want and therefor want to have and test all, there would not be enough of a base to keep the scene alive.

there would be not enough traffic to make it worth setting up any sitez, forums would be half empty with not enough activity. since its the mix and sume of activity created by actual musicians and hobbyist and hoarders, darn in fact, it wouldn't even attract a clueless troll claiming to "make" new innovative "complicated music" who sounds like a drunk toddler with a daw..

I stopped downloading everything usable a couple of years back. Hoarding software is just not doing anything to improve my music. How many compressors, delays, eq's do you need to produce a track?

A friend of mine is downloading every Kontakt bank, sample pack and plugin he finds mildly interesting but hasn't finished a track in forever. But he can take great photos for his Instagram with synths and plugins open. If he actually wants to do something he can barley find the plugins he needs because he has installed tons of stuff he will never use.

 

That is not what Steinberg told me
