From the list, I think one in every 100 people gets it just right. Sadly, ninety-nine out of 100 people believe they are the one.

 

I agree with all of them except for number 10 - widdly guitar solos. Take that one out and replace it with the the word "nigga" and we will be all set.

In my opinion Nexus piano avicii overused and other blind fallowers :D and don't forget van halen tapping solo tehnic that everybody used last 30 years, blast metal rhythm on drums!
Btw i love slap and pop on bass but overused nothing new!

The autotune in any case outrages me, but what I can't stand is the eternal basic EDM supersaw.

 

I love a good supersaw. Although, I prefer a hypersaw. I've never understood the "overused = suck" argument. People have been using approximately 3 guitar tones for ages (clean, dirty, and really dirty) and no one seems to mind. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

 

Does Big Room House count as 10 sounds?

 

What exactly is a hypersaw? I mean, what is the difference between a super and a hypersaw?

Depends on how many saws you stack in unison and how much you detune them... Supersaw is I think 7 detuned moderately, hypersaw I dont really know.

 

They left out one: the "breathy voice" (usually female, but some guys do it too). When I hear that, I can't even listen to the song even if I like everything else about it. The only thing worse is "vocal fry" at the start of a phrase, easing into the lyrics with it. Supposed to be sexy???

 

When done properly, death growls rule.

And by the way, Slipknot does not do death metal growls. In fact, they are not death metal at all. Just sayin'

Oh!!! Never gonna use a supersaw again, it's outdated... From now just hyper and ultra saws!!!

 

What I'm really fed up with is the "crying voice" like Alanis Morisette, but only she can do it nicely, and she's the original. It sounds like "natural auto-tune". Trying to convey some emotion, but turns out just so fucking annoying, especially when done at every verse. So many [usually] American female singers do it. Gross!

 

Supersaw is Roland terminology. It uses 7 voices and is less densely detuned than a hypersaw. Hypersaw is the Access terminology. It uses 9 voices and is more densely detuned. Basically, supersaw is a jp8080v and hypersaw is Access Virus (C and newer).

 

Alanis is Canadian... but she still sounds annoying to me ... as do all of the American whine-stresses...

or maybe I'm just a chauvanist pig... even more annoying when guys do their version of it

I'll take Natalie Merchant or Hope Sandoval any day over those crying divas....

Supersaw is up there for me. So many tracks that have potential are ruined by that sound nowadays. It lacks texture, emotion and It's so outdated.
