This is a pretty funny subject to compare DAWs about. "I'm going to switch DAWs because I don't like how the Plugin Manager handles shortcuts for plugins". That's like keeping a DAW because you like its piano roll, when it has problems with latency compensation, or it needing to use its own junk drivers. Stuff like GUI, "too many options", menu layouts, etc; are all things you will just get used to after a few hundred hours using the software.

This one is especially not a big thing to worry about. If you test lots of plugins, are you going to re-organize things over and over again? What about plug-ins that do more than one function? This is great for DAW stock plugins, because they are all made by the same developer. Is it really that hard to remember what developer's plugins show up under Plugin Alliance or Plugin Botique? It's easy to think it's nice to have your most used plugins organized like this to locate them quickly; but at the same time it's not really too difficult to memorize exactly where your most used plugins are located.

If spending time on this will let you be more efficient, you should look into setting up a "Brauerized" template instead. Or Channel Strip presets, fx chains. Whatever way your DAW handles those things.

well one should switch DAWs if there are more annoying things like only the Browser.

like make the example about Live:
    - I love the way how some FX plugins work, the arragement view i feel at home there, there is no other DAW, where i can actual get ideas done quickly for myself. That is very important, who needs a DAW, where all features are awsome, but you cant feels creative!
    - i miss the Step Sequences sometimes from LF, but i did get comfortable with doing drum stuff in the piano roll and if i want to make super complex drum loop programming, i could always fire up an old version of FL.
    - Freezing and flattering is just very fast in Live and this makes working with Audio awesome for me. (Flattering still could use a shortcut)
    - The plugin browser and the browser in general can be a pain, but after hitting pause on the indexer and canceling the startup plugin scan, its okay. for better organization im using the racks, they work super fine for me, since ive been using them for ages
    - Afterall if you feel fine otherwise with your main DAW, why switch?
    - if you miss something you can ALWAYS use another DAW at the side if it offers something your main doesnt.

agreed but the main tree keeps the main tree

ohhh i didnt know that about the browser @Auen Fred :)

i would appreciate if Ableton would add more collection slots. i need around 4-5 more then that max number.

EDIT: saving searches is actual a nice feature, but why not let us move the searches over the other items from Ableton (tunnings and stuff) and thats why i like the Collections, its on top and its the first thing i see when i want to add something.

Unfortunately in Studio One, a plugin shortcut can only occupy ONE location.
If it is more than one kind of synth, one must choose only one place to put the shortcut.

One of the things i love about FL setup is that i can see ALL my synths at once, or all synths arranged by vendor, or many other ways of grouping.
It only needs the shortcut copied to various locations.
As it is a Windows function, I search for all .FST within the Synth folder structure and select all and copy into the main "Synth by name" folder.
That method allows for many ways to access plugins
The drawback is that it does take some time to set up.
After doing it for the Waves plugins, I saved the folder structures for FX & Instruments, and then deleted the *.fst files and Vendor-named folders.
That way I have a blank template to start with (kind of like what is offered on install, but much more extensive.

But I use Reaper now so all that is a bit in the past for me.
I find Reaper works well enough, but for exploring and playing around I prefer FL Studio.
I am also just a hobbyist so investing time in that is no big deal.

Don't know if it's been mentioned here yet, but if you use Logic then for 30 bucks you can get https://speakerfood.com/pages/plugsearch-4-product-page. Been using it for years, and its a game changer IMO. So next time you have 30 bucks to purchase some plugin that you probably don't need, give this tool a shot

Libraries have been organising books for what, a thousand years or more? And manually! But for some reason, with all the computing power available to everybody and his dog Steinberg/Yamaha were unable to create a VST metadata system with strict rules (no metadata, no worky) that enforces upon programmers the inclusion of even the most basic information such as what a plugin is for.

You might say 'but some plugins defy categorisation'. As do many books, but they're still organised and easily found by librarians.

I have not heard of that, I will definitely use this! Not sure if it’s in the iOS version cause the plugins are probably already guaranteed to work but that’d help with scrolling through an increasing list of Audio Units
