    The other Apple January surprise:

    https://www.macrumors.com/2023/01/18/apple-customers-complain-trade-in/

I was glad I could get my current M1 MBP Max and the maximum RAM for it last year. No need for me to upgrade, and I was lucky to get a good trade-in value for the Intel one I had. I still keep my mid-2012 for OCLP and to take on the field, but my sympathies to whoever wants to trade in their gear these days.

    Pure. Greed.

If you look at the "Workstation" laptops from Dell, HP & Lenovo, the pricing is not much better. It's amazing that so called "Pro" level computers have such basic features. Some of these features tend to be a generation behind what is current.

I like the truly modular concept of the Framework systems. Not the size. A 15" to 17" option would be more welcome on the x86_x64 side for sure.

Apple needs to read the room and offer basic storage upgrade options or, reduce the price further. Proprietary formats for no reason are a turn off.

The target market is mainly those who have yet to move from Intel based systems to Apple Silicon and, new users.

Hell of a way to treat those users.

Well if you are the only company selling it, you can set the rules. And i am sure nobody owning a mac will go Windows or Linux. It is simply unlikely. And thats what Apple is using here.

The issue with passmark is that is not testing the entire system, just the cores. With slower cores but unified ram/video/ssd the system can be actually faster for audio processing. As proven by the insanely low latency M series can go without clicks or pops. I'm not on the market for upgrade, but I don't think we have any reliable benchmark that can properly assess audio production performance (aside for actually testing the machines ourselves)

If you trade-in a Mac Pro which you can buy from Apple for $52,199 atm, Apple pays you $970:

True enough. Over time, most people grow tired of being forced to accept what is offered with no meaningful say as to what it worth to them.

It does happen more than you may think. All depends on use case, curiosity, wanting to try something different, etc...

Apple will push until they get push-back. Same with NVidia.

Unless anyone has bought wrong, there is no need for an M1 user to upgrade to M2 at this point.

I clearly stated on my original statement that my M1 MBP Max has the maximum RAM, so there’s no need for me to upgrade to an M2 model. I’ll be good for the next couple of years.

Why so sensitive? Were are just having a discussion and, as such, the 'you' should have been taken as a plural (anyone).

Also note edit in my response. You is now, anyone has.

I'm 'sensitive', yet you changed your response.
    Seems legit.

You just confirmed that you are 'sensitive'. Did you not?

Seriously. Whether you are, or not, has no baring on the topic in this thread. We all have personal opinions that drive our choices. Informed choices make for a more useful experience concerning said choices.

What's the point of a 512MB or 1TB SSD? Good grief.
Start at 2 and go up from there.

My PC has a total of 27TB internal, almost full. 8TB of that is SSD.

I don't know how likely it is or not but I have both sitting right next to each other. A Windows desktop I built and a Mac Pro desktop. I use the Windows machine for audio and the mac for everything else. Next machine will likely be another Windows machine though. It's just cheaper and I like the ability to customize as I see fit. Plus recyclable parts!

Proves how much Apple values it's community and/or how much their systems are actually worth.

I am going to wait until I see the prices stop going down on garbage cans, and then keep my eyes open for a deal on as late as possible intel desktop Pro. It won't be that guy's "50K machine (proof, invoices?)", but I will see how far I can stretch a thousand bucks and get a fantastic running machine.

A right to repair your own gear without having to pay ridiculously high prices for replacement parts
would be a real 2023 January Surprise but you can't even add m.2 SSD's to the Mac Pro that aren't
bought from Apple (for 3 times the price of an equivalent SSD from other brands).
