nah after effects is gonna be ok, as long as I can remember I used it without apple.
I would love to see it replaced with handbrake, which I've always used for encoding.
But raw avi files are fine for converting

Unfortunately, Quicktime is the best "cross-platform" commercial video container. I repeat: commercial. If we add Final Cut compatibility is mandatory for top Windows video editors...

I see no reason to worry.
If Apple and their shareholders want to continue boosting sales of quality iDevices, they'd be stupid to drop Windows support for iTunes, and iTunes is worthless without a great AAC encoder.

So there will be no longer Video Support in Studio One ?
S1 relies on Quicktime for Video as far as I know ?

If you use other apps that are dependant on Quicktime to run e.g. Juicer, Adobe stuff etc i believe you can first uninstall quicktime to solve the security issue and then do a reinstall but this time just choose the 'codecs' part and not the quicktime player itself. I know Juicer works this way.

You can install Apple quicktime codecs and not install quicktime player, Adobe products will work. this is what I have done.

I have written a thread here about Apple attitude against pro/power users (video, music,photo...) some times ago. It was mainly about music (of course) and free OS upgrades every year, not giving time to third party companies to keep the rate.
And it was about Apple dropping their own products. Last one was Aperture.
Now QT on Windows...and more to come.

Once upon a time, Apple was a computer maker. Their main mantra was along the line "Think different".
They were aiming at professionals, because pro computers users needed a tool that worked better, even if more expansive.

This time is over since Apple sold more iPhones than computers.
    "Think different" became "Think mainstream".

Because NOW, most Apple users are mainstream users with their iPhones.
And Apple computers became an iPhone accessories.
I don't have time to count around me how many ppl bought an Apple computer AFTER buying an iPhone...

Apple don"t give a f*ck about Windows pro/power users. BUT more than that, they don't give a f*ck about the same ppl on Mac.
Because nowadays, when 1 pro buy a Mac, 10 mainstream users buy one too. And they sell so many iPhones they could even drop their computers line for tablets only.

Remember this sentence when, in a year or two, they will drop Final Cut like they have done with Aperture.
I don't think we are going to see Logic 11.
See how many time they took to release Logic X.
And don't tell me they didn't have have enough money to pay more devs...

Or it will be a blend of Garageband and Logic. Like "Photos" is a blend of Aperture and iPhoto. They will call it "Music"...

Apple still make good computers (for now) and a nice OS. But simply FORGET about any Apple software for pro/power work.
They will let you down faster than you think...

Again unfortunately, Apple makes most of its money with iPhones. In fact, I think they had losses before the iPhone with only the computer business. So now the developing of computer soft goes clearly behind mobile soft.

Even Windows users we've seen the ModernUI in Windows 8 (I'm not a Windows 8 hater, I just think it was too much, I like a lot the Windows 10 ModernUI for example ).

It's sad, but nowadays computer soft is secondary. Companies makes a lot more money with both soft & hard for mobile devices.
