    LOL
With VLC available for Windows or Windows Media Player built-in, why would anyone consider installing this in the first place?

because some software seems to need this s**t to function, although VLC or media player classic do a better job

Klite Codec (aka Media player classic) does the job for me.

Apple is shit, we all know that...

Problem is Quicktime Player is needed in some Applications like Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro and even Pro Tools. Instead of that it is useless in Windows.

k-lite is not a codec, it's a collection of codecs and it doesn't contain quicktime. It did contain qt-alternative over a decade ago but apple forbade it.
Sadly, there are applications that need that damned quicktime and there is no alternative. There are files you cannot open in premiere unless you install quicktime.
So as much as I'd like to get rid of this crap, for some users it's not possible.

    My Media Player Ranking:-

    1. Media Player Classic Home Cinema (Plays anything, no fancy features, my fav)
    2. Pot Player (Lots of features)
    3. VLC (I do not recommend it over above two)

Unfortunately quicktime is a necessity if you work with video, if you work for tv/film/media. For Pro tools and Studio one you have to install it. I think Cubase is also the same. We installed it but not the player. It's not a about which media player you use. I don't think anybody use its player functions.

Hence I'm glad about that unsupported quicktime, because it's gonna push daw developers to make some changes about that video support. For now, blocking it by a firewall is the only thing.

Or maybe they push us to install realplayer instead of quicktime :)

Maybe it's time to change to some alternative instead relaying on Apple's stuff...

That's not good news. Quicktime was a source for qaac codec, known to be the best AAC encoder. Now it won't be likely available.
Also Sony Vegas requires Quicktime to decode mov files. :(

It disturbs me to see that Apple has been sucking, incrementally. Final Cut Pro X was the start of it.

It really "looks bad" that QT on Mac won't play .AVI files.

Such a g*y move from Apple to discontinue a product bundled so deep in a lot of "standard" editors.

    Remember Logic for Windows?

this move is all about causing grief for adobe without taking a direct shot at adobe. adobe were fools to develop flagship products like premier and aftereffects with such deep dependence on another company's product. very shortsighted.

Yes, and a lot of other wide spread applications rely on qt, e.g. 3ds max as well
This is the pure behavior of a monopolist. (but Apple has no monopoly, they only think so)
The real monopolist (in 2D graphics Software) is Adobe. The'll show Apple what monopoly really is.
