Hello everyone, what's the deal with macos transparent compression?
    https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Apple_File_System

It made me save gigabytes on an APFS volume (macos Ventura 13.6.5)

I used Applesauce (CLI program) on APFS volumes

    More info:
    https://copyprogramming.com/howto/apfs-how-do-i-enable-transparent-compression

    Warnings:
    - USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK
    - No GUI app found (but may exist)
    – Transparent compression updates file modify date
    - It may interfere with anti-tampering
    - Overwriting a file uncompresses it
    – It's already used by macos in system folders

If you're considering using this, I'd look up benchmarks on the compression algorithms first. zlib is very, very slow. LZFSE and LZVN are likely much, much faster.

Similarly, I'd avoid NTFS compression on Windows and use XPRESS16K (compact.exe) instead. Several GUIs available that skip already compressed files on Windows.
