Hey I'm returning to music production after 3 years. I used to compose with MIDI with Kontakt and the libraries found here. Soundtrack/film score. With AI, advances and everything, should I just return to the old libraries with KONTAKT, or is there something new that absolutely should be part of your kit if you're starting to learn how to ride this again?

 

Ignore the AI (unless it does drum fills to your absolute satisfaction) use your imagination, and scroll back three years in here and the sister site. (Nobody knows what the sister site is, btw!)

3 years? I don't think so. New libs, plugins and hardware sure, but nothing i would call "revolutionary".

Atmos has gained some relevance though, you might want to look into that since you're into soundtracks.

AI-wise there has been some pretty meh plugins, ChatGPT has become a popular thing for people to meddle with, AI generated images might be useful for your work, that's pretty much it afaik.

Pretty wild videoclips of Panagement, The God's Particle and some more. In general there seems to be more Gods than before.
Oh, and Kontakt has vst3 version now. That's pretty much it.

 

If you'd say 'after 30 years' we would be able to inform you about some pretty revolutionary changes. But after 3 years...? Nah, just the usually updates and upgrades.
