    Hello

Just bought a new crucial SSD 2TB M.2 P1 and upon opening it and comparing it to my current Crucial SSD 1TB M.2 P1 they look different and also have a difference origin of manufacture

Could I have a fake SSD on my hands?

    See photo below

@Sounddept It's twice the capacity. Maybe they needed different boards and conponents for it. I'd check if the QR code is working and also check refernce screenshot and check what the system says about the identifier using chrystal disk info.

If you buy from a reputable computer store no problem.

are you sure you are in the right thread? there are no dimms in the picture. and the question is about m.2 ssd.

i understand the op's concern. every online photo of a crucial p1 ssd that i could find says "assembled in mexico", not "product of malaysia". i don't know the answer.

unfortunately, that page doesn't really resolve the issue since the only picture they have for m.2 drives is a picture of the packaging label - and that picture doesn't say where it was manufactured.

honestly, i would contact crucial support and ask them.

I found only 2 real photos, other images - rendered promos without serial number.

Not sure about crucial but I put a silicon power m.2 in my 10 year old Mac pro 12 core and it's blazing fast. Plus is the drive comes with 5year warranty and performs as good and cost half of that as a samsung

I saw other models of their ssd's and they were made in different places: Mexico, Malaysia, China. one of them was made in Poland =)

the place of production depends on the sales market. It is more profitable to produce a batch for sale in Asian countries in Asia. it is more profitable for the American market to produce in Mexico.
