You might want to provide more details about what you are actually trying to do, because I think you might need to figure out a workaround.
I asked GPT about it to save some typing, but there was an old Mac ilok bypass method which used BlackHole (not the Eventide Reverb) so I remember how old and unsupported this might be, given the info you included:

Rewire VST installer ( by Energy XT creators )

Here’s what I found about the ReWire VST plugin by EnergyXT's creators (XT Software):

What It Is & How It Works
    • ReWire VST is a virtual instrument plug‑in (VST2) that, when used in a VST‑compatible host (like Cubase, Bitwig, Reaper, etc.), lets you host another DAW (e.g., Reason, Ableton Live, ReBirth) as a ReWire “slave” inside and record its audio directly soundonsound.com+10440audio.com+10kvraudio.com+10.

    • It essentially brings ReWire master functionality to host apps that don’t natively support it 440audio.com+1pgmusic.com+1.

Here's a throwback demo on YouTube showing Reason playing inside EnergyXT using ReWire VST:

✅ Summary & How to Get It
To install and use ReWire VST today:

    1. Locate a working installer/demo — check old plugin archives like 440Software or xtsware via archive sites. The last known version is v1.0 from Dec 2009 kvraudio.com+10440audio.com+10youtube.com+10.

    2. Install into your VST folder, then open a VST host that supports ReWire-master mode.

    3. Loaded as a VST instrument, route a DAW like Reason or Live to act as slave, and record its output inside your host.

    4. Note: You're limited to one stereo ReWire instance, which covers most typical use.
    ℹ️ Alternative Options
    • If you need multi‑channel routing, this plugin may fall short. Users note the rest of the inputs are mono .

    • Other methods exist today, like jack, Voicemeeter, ASIO Link Pro, or Ableton Link—each with different pros/cons for audio/MIDI sync audiosex.pro.

but a vst2 will not work in cubase 14,right?

    ChatGPT said:
You're absolutely right — Cubase 14 (and Cubase 13 before it) has officially dropped support for VST2 plugins entirely.

    ✅ What That Means:
    • ReWire VST (by EnergyXT) is VST2-only, last updated in 2009 — so:
      • It will not load in Cubase 14

      • ❌ No VST2 wrapper will help unless you're using an older DAW or workaround host

      • ❌ Steinberg has fully committed to VST3 going forward
    Possible Workarounds:
    1. Use an Older Cubase Version (v11 or lower)
    • Cubase 11 and earlier support VST2 and ReWire.

    • If you have access to an old license, install that alongside Cubase 14 (Steinberg Licensing allows this).
    2. Use a VST2-Compatible Wrapper Host
    • Run a VST2-compatible mini-host like:
      • Cantabile Lite

      • Savihost

      • Plogue Bidule

      • Minihost Modular (Image-Line)
    • Load ReWire VST there → route audio into Cubase via virtual audio cables (e.g., BlackHole, JACK, Loopback).
    3. Switch to a Modern ReWire Alternative
    • ReWire is deprecated by Propellerhead (now Reason Studios) since 2020.

    • Consider:
      • Ableton Link (sync across DAWs)

      • Loopback + MIDI virtual ports (for routing Reason or another DAW)

      • ReaStream (free audio network plugin by REAPER)

      • Blue Cat Connector (MIDI + audio routing between apps)

      • VB-Audio VoiceMeeter + Virtual ASIO
    Bottom Line
ReWire VST is not usable in Cubase 14.

    Your best options are:

    • Run it in an older Cubase version

    • Host it in a VST2-friendly mini host, or

    • Replace it with a more modern sync and routing tool.

No idea about how to acquire the Rewire VST, it seems pretty lost to time.

I sync Renoise to BitWig using Bidule as a ReWire bridge; you might try that out.

The ReWire VST installer from Energy XT (now XT Software) is unfortunately no longer officially available as the product has been discontinued. Cubase has separated from Rewire. Even if you find it, you can no longer use it.

    Look for other alternatives.

Hi there, thank you, how does this work in practice/nutshell ( ? )

Would it be possible to use with Cubase 14, to sync to a version of Renoise that still has ReWire ?

If you have Reason 10 installed (or another ReWire capable host) the Rewire protocol should already be installed. Also of note, Rewire support in Cubase was dropped since Cubase12. Propellerheads dropped rewire support in Reason as of version 11. Rewire support in Renoise went away since Renoise v3.5. If you have the earlier versions of these tools you should still be able to install and use them along with Rewire in win10. Dunno about win11. Installing these on Win11 might prove dodgy but you can give it a shot. I keep a win7 production machine with all those tools on it for just this purpose.

First, you need to enable ReWire in Bidule. The easiest way to do is with a parallel installation of an older version of Bidule (.9777 or prior) and ticking the Enable ReWire Mixer option in the main Bidule software (NOT the plugin). Alternatively: you can add the registry entry ReWireMixer.enabled with a value of 1 to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PlogueBidule (or the com.plogue.bidule.plist file in /users/(username)/Library/Preferences/ folder if you're on a Mac).
Once you've gotten ReWire enabled in Bidule, you just open the Bidule VST in your project, right-click in the Bidule plugin window, and add ReWire Devices > Renoise. Once Renoise is running, right-click on the Renoise object in Bidule, select Sync to > Bidule Plugin_0 and connect all the outputs from the Renoise object to the Bidule Plugin_0 object. Then it's all a matter of routing outputs in Renoise and your host DAW. You'll definitely want to create a template in your DAW to avoid doing this for every project.

    I hope that's clear!

YMMV on stability, but it's pretty good in BitWig. There are extra (rather annoying) steps involved if you're running on an ARM Mac, but it is possible. I am currently slaving Renoise 3.4.4 to the latest version of BitWig through Bidule on an M2 Mac, without having to run BitWig in Rosetta.
