    Hey,

can you list any songwriting courses? and explain why you found them good?

Involving lyrics would be nice, but other ones work aswell. Books are also okay to list here.

There are so many Udemy and Skillshare ones, which arent probably worth it.

so i want to find a preselection with your help.

Genre is important imo. Classical, prog, dubstep and pop require pretty different skills and knowledge sets.

I find that for myself picking a song that really impresses me and looking for a deep-dive on it is more useful than generalised courses.

Tunesmith: Inside the art of songwriting - by Jimmy Webb

ALSO - On a pure composition level, not necessarily popular music, look up books on counterpoint writing and large ensemble writing if you want more in that area.

Search for the following keyword on the sister site:
    Ask Video SongCraft Presents Songwriting

Writing a song (which you hear in the charts) is usually a collective work. You can find very few videos on the internet that teach this collective work.

Music industry does not exist in most countries. Collaborative work happens in industries. Where people give their own production work in one part of the industry as food to other parts of the industry. The music industry is also made up of chains that people know their duty in different parts of the industry.
Without entering the music industry, all the work will be on the shoulders of one person, who will definitely not be able to complete all the processes.
Writing a song individually without knowing the other factors involved will not be very effective. It is necessary to communicate with the music industries and if such an industry does not exist in the geography of the artist, by communicating with the industries in other parts of the planet, the synergy necessary to make music and present it to the audience should be done.
Songwriting training courses are not limited to studio work and many factors need to be identified and planned, all of which require a lot of executive efforts by different people.

I write songs and the only tutorial somewhere close to complete for me was the Sonic Academy tutorial from 'The Midnight'. Comeback Kid.

i do enjoy this one, watched 2 videos, tried to work on my lyrics with the tips he gave, now ofc its for Pop music, but i think his ideas and the way how he talks about it, applies to all genres.

Also realized i need to be more playful with all that, just have fun and try around - its not im financially depending on it. Its just that i dont have 24/7 for that.

I realized Alicia Keys, Timabland also talk about songwriting, getting lyrics together and then find a melody.

Music genres are different. If your goal is pop, rock, jazz, etc., it's usually best to keep in constant contact with artists, producers, engineers, investors, distributors, and other people involved. The activity in music work is very broad and there is a need to communicate with different people. If these connections are not formed, the music produced will not reach many listeners, and any art, no matter how great, will remain without customers.
Usually, the general opinion is that making a song means writing lyrics and mixing and that's it. This is only part of the reality. A very large part of reality that is usually not given much attention is the part of communication. Extensive communication with different departments.

my goal is just to have fun and play with melodies, write stuff for me, for friends, nothing more.

goal is actual more EDM, trance or even ambient.
And it would be cool to have some sort of exchange of ideas with others, its true.

A little specialist knowledge never hurts, you can always watch and listen to what the other musicians are doing. It's good to understand a little about the subject matter, but in the end you will have to decide for yourself what you like or don't like and what you can cope with.

Something to read --> Understanding song form: www.jeffreypepperrodgers.com/blog/songwriting-lesson-understanding-song-form

    1. Verse only
    2. Verse with refrain
    3. Verse and chorus
    4. Verse and bridge
    5. Verse, chorus, and bridge
    6. Prechorus
    7. Intros, outros, and interludes

These genres are usually made individually without the need to communicate with other people. If these are your goals and not making money, then your job is relatively easy.:winker:

i guess it can hurt to still maybe try to find others, nevertheless.

So yeah, maybe i should open a topic here about song writing in general or check if somebody already created one?
