    Hey Guys

When exporting a cropped sample from ReCycle v2.5 to a WAV file its adds 4 seconds of nonsense audio on the end of the exported loop.

In ReCycle the audio sounds and loops perfectly, there is no additional audio at the end of the loop and the left and right locator are at the start and end of the cropped loop.

Am I missing something obvious or does any one else experience this?

I just want a cropped loop from beginning to end, I am not looking to create individual chops.

I have attached an audio sample so you can hear what I mean.

    Many thanks

    SC

You possibly had the wrong values of bars/beats/TimeSig set before export.
It sounds like ReCycle tried to fill the remaining empty space.

I did look at that but its all correct and the detected tempo it sets is also correct which is based on the bars set which is 4 bars.

Just realised that's a sample of what you did. Recycle can be a bit fiddly, but it shouldn't be adding extra bars etc. Maybe something to do with the settings inside Reason possibly or the octorex settings.

The original cropped audio is 4 bars but the exported adds 4 seconds of extra audio knocking out the 4 bars.

If you count the main audio before reapted fluff you'll see it is 4 bars

I am not using Reason just ReCycle v2.5 standalone and then exporting out from that.

If I export to a REX2 file and import that in to Reason in a DrOctorex then it does play back the loop as it should be, the issue seems to be with WAV and AIFF exports that it adds this additional 4 seconds of audio at the end of the required loop.

Opening in Reason may be a good way to verify at least. I do seem to recall having similar issues in the past, but right you are, it shouldn't be doing that.

Appreciate you taking the time to reply... thank you

Looks like i'll go back to using Transcribe! to crop my loops.

I really liked ReCycles transient detector, it made things so much easier and faster.

In Recycle go to Preferences, General, and check Export As One Sample will Crop to Loop.

I looked in 2.21. If new version is different idk

Or hit Preview, set loop length.

if I remember correctly, it has some dumb default settings when you first use it after installing it.

    That works!
Adding slices and exporting into wav slices works properly, the bug only happens if you don't have any slices at all, only start and end markers.
So ReCycle shouldn't be used as a wave editor maybe... ocenaudio.com is much better at that anyway ;)

Hi folks. I've used Recycle on MAC for 30+ years now. This free update is buggy beyond belief. Many input parameters are coarse and unusable.
Try tuning your sample with any degree of accuracy or fine control. Ouch. Also the undo function produces many strange inaccuracies. Still, I had actually given up hope that they would ever update at all so that's something. Im guessing that whoever ported this app had never really used Recycle before so they simply never noticed that it behaves like a pig compared to the old one. It WILL chop beats so you can learn something from it. Thats a positive. It badly needs an update to be a useful tool. Right now its an embarrassment and I'll keep one of my macs on Mojave as it works like a dream there. Fingers crossed.
(Tested on Sonoma with intel and M1 Macs.)

    ** Update **

So I cropped a different audio file and exported it as a WAV file and then the dreaded 4 seconds of extra audio returned however I found that if I turn off the Envelope effect then the exported WAV is cropped and plays back perfect everytime without the added 4 seconds.

So the envelope effect must be doing something to the audio on the export.

Just incase anyone else was also finding this.

Hi Stormchaser. What you are experiencing is a feature not a bug. it sounds like you have stretch turned up high whereas you need stretch turned off . On a longish audio slice the stretch function will always add a sometimes unpredictable forwards and backwards effect.
The stretch function is there to cover up gaps in the audio slices when you either decrease the tempo of the audio OR increase the the pitch - you will get tiny annoying gaps of silence between audio slices. stretch function is there to eliminate these by stretching the tail end of the audio slice -NEVER the transient which it always keeps intact. That is a feature sort of unique to Recycle. I would also add that us old pro audio guys have used Recycle for decades not just for drums but for basslines guitar parts and vocals etc so it is definitely worth sticking with
and learning. It is one of the most essential audio tools ever created.

    Hi Si Brad

Thanks for the reply, that makes perfect sense.

Looking at the envelope effect its defaultly adding 40% stretch which when enabled is when I am getting the extra 4 seconds of nonsense audio but when the envelope is turned off the exported cropped audio sounds perfect.

So it was a combination of a couple of things but at least now I have a working process thanks to you wonderful people.
