Im currently looking for an maxxbass alternative since I don't want to download the whole waves bundle.
Do you have any recommendations for plugins that work like Maxxbass?

MaxxBass is basically a parallel saturation through a bandpass filter (in that order) as well as a second parallel saturation through lowpass filter. So you can do that with stock plugins (and it will be even more customizable).

As far as I understood it Maxxbass basically adds upper harmonics so the bass becomes more audible.
Im mainly trying to add it into my mastering chain so that the low end is translated well into smaller speakers and headsets

 

Preferably do that in the production- and mixing stage.

BL-Infra: it's free, generates harmonics and subharmonics (up to 4 octaves down ) and HAS PITCH TRACKER BUILT IN

 

I saw some mixers do this in their mastering chain and im just curious how it would translate.
Obviously it would be best to fix it in the mix beforehand.

 

You can do that sometimes, if you low end is pretty clean and the top end is pretty open. Otherwise you are introducing offset distortion, you might experience some interference in summing.

It can be done but it's a light touch for polish, not a foundational step or major correction.

 

MaxxBass Ren Bass purpose is to REPLACE subs by their octave harmonics in the low mids.
If they wanted to add only low mids only, they would simply have used saturation.
And not that buttons mess ;D

Purpose is to translate better on smaller speakers, by replacing A PART of the subs (impossible to reproduce on small speakers) by a low mid "ghost".
Human brain being tricked to "hear" those subs... but they are not there.

This is TOTALLY different from sub generators or saturation plugins.

I have the complete bundle of BL plugins which they released for free. Shame it seems they went out of business, they were pretty solid

I like Bark of Dog.

 

Anyone tried Black Salt Low Control? It's pretty similar to the Waves options. Maybe included in the PA everything release..

 

BBE sonic sweet has a nice bass treatment.

 

As a PA fan myself I will highly recommend firstly bx_subsynth & then Bass-mint. Bass Mint have more variety to enhance bass.
